Not feeling good on pre op

Recommended Posts

hi everyone

I'm doing my pre op diet and the weight is coming off quick like it's suppose to...yah!

The thing is that I feel really faint and lethargic. My head doesn't feel right, spaced and dizzy.

Wouldn't be such a big deal if I didn't have a two little ones (18month and 3.5 years) to take care of!

Has anyone had this problem? Should I be eating more? I'm kind of worried about passing out.

My surgery isn't until March 20th. I'm not even on full Pre-Op (2 shakes, 1 lean cuisine) more like 1 shake, 2 lean cuisine and a little extra. I've lost close to 7 pounds already. I don't need to start full pre-op until March 10th. I'm really worried if I feel this way now, what will pre-op be like? Do you guys think that if I lose my 5% by pre-op time, it's as important to stick to it or can I keep up with what I am doing now? (does that make any sense?).

Thanks for any insight!

Thanks

I did pass out repeatedly. My doc took me off it, as I didnt really need to do it (had had a liver ultrasound by chance and knew for sure my liver wasnt enlarged). I'm not sure what he would have done if I HAD needed to do it though.

I felt awful, exactly like you describe and everytime I stood up, the floor would tilt and I'd see spots. I fainted a couple of times. I also felt like I was trying to walk through Water, just NO energy.

I'm not sure what to tell you though becuase if you have to do it you have to do it. Its not going to cause any real harm and it will probably pass within another day or two. Hang in there.

Just make sure that you tell the Dr what is happening. What describe is not that unusual.....some of the pre-op diets can be rather drastic, but it IS what needs to done, like Jaqui said.

But, DO tell your Doctor!

Yep, I had the same problem too during the pre-op diet. I was consuming less calories than what I was use to.

I didn't tell me doctor about it, I just dealt with it at work.

Talk tou your doctor. Tell him about your concerns especially, since you are taking care ot two small children. Maybe the doctor might modify your diet.

DannyLu...I have had the same problems, today is day 2 of this liquid diet and I also have two kids, hence the member name...my husband has been away on business for just over 2 months....anyway, I was so dizzy earlier when I was driving I had to pull my car over to the side of the road...I passed out cold for like 3 minutes...I was scared, called my doctor, but it was too close to close of business...not sure what to do I've just been laying around feeling gross and lethargic....good luck I hope you feel better...Sorry I don't have any words to help I just wanted you to know I could identify with your feelings...

I'm on day 2 of the clear liquid diet--surgery is March 2. I found that Special K Protein Water really helps, as does drinking as much as I can tolerate of different options--chicken broth, diluted juice, water, coffee, protein water, diluted Gatorade, etc. if I can keep full on these, it doesn't make me so loopy. I still have to work and peeing every 30 minutes isn't fun, but at least I'm feeling OK. I'd highly recommend the Protein water--they have packets you can add to water and bottles already made. I found them in the nutrition section at KMart...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
