HELP!! When getting a fill my dr. asks if the water goes down...

Recommended Posts

Okay... so when i go to get a fill... he inserts the needle.. and asks me to sit up. I sit up and he tells me to start sipping Water. I start sipping and he asks me if its going down. At first i feel it going down... then it stops in my throat... i tell him and he starts to unfill... i do not know when to tell him to stop unfilling... can anyone help me figure how to distinguish when the fill is just right. Getting really frustrated... down only 35lbs and i was banded on oct 14, 2008. Please HELP!!!

You should be able to drink the Water comfortably , Not feel it "stop' or back up in your throat or feel any pain.

If your not sure after you tell him have him do the fill then walk around the office or wait in the waiting room for a while and continue to drink Water.

Sometimes after i have a fill i cant gulp water but I do not have a problem with drinking it with sips .

Does that help any ?

Mindy

Also you said your down only 35lbs since being banded.

your weight loss averages out to 1.4 pds per week . That is "Average" weight loss for the band. Average is 1-3 pounds per week so your right in the middle. You have nothing to be discouraged about . Your doing fine !

I listen for it to go down. Maybe I'm weird but I can actually hear the Water hit my stomach. This may be bc I always get a fill on an empty stomach. Try to listen for it next time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
