Clear Liquids: Day 1. Gulp! (literally and figuratively)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I started my liquid diet this morning and though I'm fine with having tea for Breakfast, I realize I'm EXTREMELY nervous. All the good to come from this life change seems really far off, though I know I will make it happen. Now I'm focused on the surgery, making it through and coordinating everyone's lives.

Anyone else getting banded on 2/24 and have it truly hit you - this is REAL? Anyone else with words of encouragement?

Thanks for all your input.

R.

Hi, I too just started the liquid diet today. So far so good. 9 more days to go on the liquid and 3-4 is my surgery day. I can't wait. I just bought the magic bullet blender today. I heard that is an excellent tool. Good luck to you!.

rathsog – Good Luck!!! I’m still waiting for insurance but occasionally have panic attacks thinking about the big step.

shellb – I was thinking of getting a Magic Bullet blender also I think having several little containers to use would be great. I have a big smoothie maker/blender but one use and it has to be washed right away if you plan on using it soon, I like to rinse it out and stick it in the dishwasher till I run a load not very friendly for daily use. Let us know how it works for you.

My surgery is also scheduled for 2-24-09. Im nervous about the anesthesia. But man i cant wait to be done with the pre-op phase. my doctor didn't have me do Clear Liquids. but ive been resticted to sugar free carnation instant Breakfast and sugar free Jello and popcicles. ive done pretty well. ive cheated a couple times but limited the cheating to just to Soup and mot more than once a day. so ive stuck to the liquids successfully pretty well. im afraid of waking up and having them say no band cause my liver didn't shrink enough. that would suck!! i took 2 weeks off of work and had to make alot of special arrangements to be off

I'm really nervous about the anesthesia too but I guess right now, I'd have to say I'm nervous about the whole thing.

Jennifer: where are you having your surgery?

hi there,

I'm starting my clear liquids today and am having surgery next Monday--i'm amazed that so many are on liquids for so short a time. Maybe it depends on your pre-op weight? Good luck with your procedures tomorrow, may we all get through the next few weeks with flying colors!

newdicarlo: Good luck to you too! I can't believe it's here for me. I swing between panic and excitement and everything in between.

I wonder if I'm going to be able to sleep tonight?

Hi folks:

I'll be thinking of you on tomorrow. My surgery is on 2-25 and I can hardly wait. Don't get me wrong -- I am nervous. But I am ready to get on with it.

The clear liquid phase is turning out to be difficult. I am physically hungry, but I realize that more than anything else, I just WANT food. But I guess this is as good a time as any to start getting over that.

Hi all, I just had my EGD (camera down the throat) and everything went fine. I was really nervous for nothing. I did come home and sleep another 4 hours. Now I am ready to start drinking again. Only day 2 on Clear Liquids and I can't wait until I can eat pureed foods.

vicp446: I'm having my surgery at Cornell in the city with Dr. Pomp. And you?

How are you today? I hope everything went fine. My doctor is Dr. Nusbaum in Livingston and Morristown. Good luck!!!

I hope all goes really well for you! I had that exact same feeling when I started the liquid diet, but it was fine. I was really anxious about it, but it went really smoothly -- only thing that was hard was being around other people who could eat.

I tell you -- that first sip of yogurt after my surgery was one of the most appreciated meals ever! :)

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and excellent results!

Catherine

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
