Restriction Question

Recommended Posts

I know that I don't have restriction because I have never had a fill. Last night I waited too long to eat and I ate a piece of chicken kind of fast. I felt like there was a rock in my chest, it eventually passed but I don't understand. I thought that everything went down easy until a fill. It usually take me 25 minutes to eat a chicken breast and a little bit of salad, could there be something wrong or is this the way it should be. I am following protien first and then salad, I am not hungry but I am never really full.

A lot of the business about restriction is very personal. It can also depend on what size band you have. I have the larger Vanguard band--I had no restriction once the intial swelling from surgery went away.

I did have a small amount of restriction after my first fill of 4cc's. I had a second fill of 2cc's about 8 days ago. HELLO RESTRICTION!

Chew that food, Protein first--sounds like you're doing swell.

I've yet to have a fill with this band after 4 months and have restriction off and on depending on time of day, how fast I eat and what I eat.

Sound like your doing fine, restristion comes in all different ways.

SOme bandsters arefortunate to have restriction with the placement of the band, I had it for 9 weeks post op. COnsider yourself fortunate and go with it for as long as you can, if you are losing without a fill do not rush it.

Even with my fill level right now,, somedays I feel like I have zero restriction and can eat anything then the next day it is back. Fickle bands we have.

are you supposed to eat Protein before salad first???

One of the main rules of a bandsters is to eat Proteins first, the veggies & salads, then fruitsand then carbs if you have room. Hare Proteins keep the pouch full longer. Keeps you less likely to be hungry so soon

SOme U.S. Dr.'s have strict guidlines they follow for fills, it may be only giving .5 cc's at a time or waiting a certain ammount of time between fills or both. They really want you to work with your band and not rely on it to do all the work where as Mexican Dr.'s give fills more frequently and more aggressively. It all depends on the Dr.

Here is a good site to read about fills, it will help ansewr your questions

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
