Hey, just found this site and it looks great...have been reading for an hour or so and decieded I needed to join.

I start my liquid diet tommorow am and am scheduled for surgery on Monday morning...I am terrified about the change in my life but with my health being what it is I have no choice if I am to see my grandkids grow up. Diabetic problems etc.

The hardest part the last week or so was looking at all the foods I am going to miss and I admit I have been cheating this week but my Dr. on thursday said this is normal.

I am a meat and potatoes type of person and have decieded to have one last t-bone tonite to kill my last urge....lol

any way I am really glad I found this forum as I realize that it really helps when you can talk about these things with other people who are or have been going thru this procedure and understand.

respectfully....denverbear :)

Hi denverbear and welcome!!! Getting your band on Monday - that is so exciting! This is a great place and you will find many nice people here who will answer your questions, share their stories with you, and just listen when you need to vent. I have found some very good friends here. You are so right ..... it is nice to be able to come here and talk with people who know what you are going through. There are a lot of foods that you won't have to miss - you will still be able to eat them, just not as much of them. I hope you enjoy that t-bone tonight! Good luck with your surgery and I'll be looking to see how you come out. Take care!!! Becky

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
