This is true. RnY patients usually have way more Vitamin and mineral supplement needs because of the malabsorbtion.

Yet another reason I want the band if I can get it and it's a good fit for me.

I found out the surgeon in my area that's covered by Aetna is pretty new, finished his internship at Duke University (they were pioneering the laproscopic RNY back when I was at my highest and thinking about WLS), and specializes in banding and laproscopic RNY. He's done 200 procedures, but he's only been out of his internship a few years -- although the focus on laproscopic makes me feel better :hurray:

I'm seriously thinking about seeing if the surgeon who revised my Mom's RNY for her (who now does mostly bands according to my Mom) is covered under Aetna for banding. Mom hasn't had any problems since he did the revision. I am 99% sure that if I were to opt for an RNY that's where I'd go -- if he knows how to fix one I'd feel pretty good that he knows how to do one.

But I'd still rather do the band even after reading the complications/removal forums. PBing doesn't sound pleasant, but neither is constant vomiting/lower GI issues -- and it sounds like PBing is more of a symptom of a problem than a side effect. (I have enough lower GI issues without help!)

I take Flinestone vitamns (or the generic brand) and a chewable Calcium. I tried Centrium Sr (yes, I am at that age :hurray:!) and found I had stomach pains the entire time that I took them. It took me about a week to figure out why I was having the pains and for 2 days straight I forgot to take my Vitamins and was feeling so much better.

I have the Flinstones chewables and they make me want to gag when I eat them. I keep it in my pocket trying to convince myself all day to just "take it". Do the Centrum chewables taste any better?

My doctor prescribed me prenatal Vitamins. They dont taste bad. I didn't like the Flinstones either.

I didn't like the children's chewables either, and I was very relieved to find adult chewables. They taste much better in my opinion. I passed my Flintsone Vitamins down to my kids. I take one Viactiv and two SF Tums for Calcium immediately after though, because they taste even better. They're sort of my Vitamin chaser, lol.

You may want to check with your Doctor about taking both the Calcium and Vitamins together. I was told to take them at separate times due to something about the impact on the body's ability to absorb the nutrients if taken together.

Thanks for the advice, maw. I have an appointment this week, and I was going to talk to my doctor about the Vitamins I'm taking (extra B12 and D). I'll ask him about the Calcium combo. I'd rather just stick to the two sf Tums that he recommends, but I'm afraid the calcium isn't enough and not the right type. I also hate to take the Viactivs because of the added carbs and calories. I know it's just 40 cals and 6 carbs, but when I'm on my elliptical, I see with my calorie counter how much energy it takes to burn off just 40 cals. I wish there was was sf Viactiv.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
