Guest BikiniBeachy Posted February 21, 2009 I just wanted to update on a post about losing my bariatric coverage post op. I was PANICKED about fills. After a few e-mails to my insurance BCBS of MA Blue Elect I finally got an e-mail back, and I was very pleased! Hopefully this post will come up into someone's search if this happens to them and they are wondering...but the coordinator was very kind, and said that I would have fills covered for life since I got the surgery during the four month period they covered bariatric surgery *whew* I can take a breather. I know how difficult some insurance companies can be...so I only hope for others some companies start acting like this!

maw 0 Posted February 23, 2009 :hurray: I'm in the process of beginning to freak out! I got a call from my doctor's office last Thursday and was told that as part of the Governor's budget reduction measures, Bariatric Surgery was being cut from the state employee health care benefits. Fortunately, both the House and Senate had two different versions of recommendations so that the bill had to go to the Conference committee for them to settle the issue. I was able to contact the few folks that I have told about the surgery and they have written legislators. I have written to all 10 legislators on the Conference committee. Hopefully, it won't be cut or at least we will be "grandfathered" in. It really isn't a cost saving measure when you look at the medical costs (doctor's visits, medications, procedures, etc) related to obesity. Keep your fingers crossed. I don't know what I'll do if I have to pay out of pocket for the band fills. They are $650.00 each. This really could impact my weight loss process.
HMBradley1965 0 Posted February 23, 2009 Wow!!! Just recently I had changed my mind from band to gastric bypass. I am scheduled for March 9th so I know I am ok. I could never have afforded to pay for fills. I am glad I changed my mind now... Helena
Guest BikiniBeachy Posted February 24, 2009 Good luck Helena. I sometimes wonder if I should've gotten bypass because of my tummy issues, but I know I couldn't deal with dumping syndrome so then I feel a little better. $650, woah! I'm so sorry!
HMBradley1965 0 Posted February 24, 2009 I wanted dumping syndrome I don't want to be able to cheat. I am a diabetic and If I am going to dump on sugar and bad carbs thats good since those are the things make blood sugar high....If I cheat I want consequenses...
