New: in NEPA, CIGNA health insurance

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am new to the board and currently researching the lap band surgery. I have already received a referral from my primary care giver but when they called to schedule my consult I was told my Insurance CIGNA did not cover the hospital the Dr. went to.

I called my insurance company to find Drs in network and hospitals in Network and was told that my company opted out of the inclusion of Weight loss surgeries.

So I figured that I would not be able to get the surgery and gave up. Until I decided one day to go to my HR department and ask if someone there could help me. At first I was really embarrassed to ask for help feeling like my HR department didnt need to know my personal issues but decided to just make myself vulnerable. Anyway, my HR rep called the insurance company and found that my company had not indeed opted out and the surgeries are covered. She sent me the documentation and now she is working to find an in network dr and hospital for me.

So my question here is, does anyone live in NEPA (Wilkes Barre area) and does anyone have CIGNA insurance?

Looking for some support from someone who has been through the process with the same insurance company.

I am really anxious now to learn all I can and take all the proper steps so that I dont hit any bumps in the road. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Ok Take a Deep Breath... you can do this Janeane! :tt2:

dont know if you are allowed to do this but if so, email me at info@techtales.com

Good Luck with your journey. I found it frustrating with the insurance company pre-determination phase but just be persistant. I am a native of Wilkes Barre, but moved to southern Arizona 15 years ago and decided to make this home.

hi I live in NEPA..and I am going to be having my surgery in Port Jervis, NY because my insurance Cigna makes you go to a center of excellance and none of the hospitals in this area are.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
