Question re: pre-op travel - On Thursday I start 5 days of full liquids, then 2 days of clear before surgery. I do a lot of traveling, and think I should get an atlas to PLAN my potty stops along the way, or isn't it as bad as I'm anticipating it to be? (Generally 2 hours travel time). Will my tummy rumblings overpower the orchestra? Am I making a mountain out of a molehill? I realize everyone is different, but I'm curious to know how other travelers handled this. Thanx much!

I'm wondering the same thing myself! When I had my one-hour dietary session I asked about the 2-week window, and she (Kris) said it was just one week. I can't imagine there would be that much difference between doctors in the same clinic. Who did you get the two-week info from? I hope you only have to do the one-week also. I thought it would be easy; now I'm not so sure. Will have to be EXTREMELY focused on the goal!

Yup; she's the one -- VERY pregnant. And I checked again - it's just one week. Hooray.

For many of us, the pre-op diet was "nothing by mouth after midnight." (Just what you wanted to hear, right?)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
