Recommended Posts

I am so ready to change my life - even though I think I might just make it based on BMI - I hurt so badly and hope that I will be able to get this done.. I have Crohns disease and am so concerned this could be an issue - Im looking to get as much info and advice as possible ...

Oh also I am in NW Florida Panhandle ...so if anyone is near there - we don't have too many choices but I would love to find the one that is right ...

From what I've read Crohn's is a contraindication for lap band surgery, but I am not a surgeon. Your safest bet is to attend a seminar and ask the surgeon.

Wow Luluc you have done fantastic !!

I did attend a seminar ..was not crazy about the doc ...but he did say lap band was ok w/Crohns...

However,I didnt' get the feeling he wanted to do it (??)

BUT ...I have cried for about the last 3 days when I found out that my new job, with my new insuarance is one big lie .. .

My insurance which I was told was great ...comprable to my last ins...if really horrible !

$6000 deductable $0 coinsurance which means nothing is paid until I reach the $6000!

I am so upset...not to mention the lap band is totally excluded anyway ..even if I had $6000

I am so upset , the pain in my body from joint pain and my emotions from not being able to get scripts and the amount of work I have is wearing me down...

so sorry to vent...you have done great ! Keep it up !

I had diverticulitis when I was 23. I had severe infection a fistula form between my colon and bladder. I had a colon resection done.

After talking to my Surgeon We decited the best course for me would be the Lap Band over the By pass.

The first thing out of my mouth was I able to get WLS based on my past surgery and history. I wanted to know right away what my options were. So go get a consult and get your answer.

I am seeing alot people getting upset over insurance. Companies are cutting back Benefits. I just learned My Short term Disbility might not be there when I get my surgery.

thank you justarose,

initially my lapband surgeon was extremely leary in doing the surgery - till he had a conversation w/my gastro.

i have been off meds since surgery in 1996, and i may have had 2-3 flair ups a yr. since it's an autoimmune disease affecting the ileum, bowels, & digestion - banding doesn't sound like a "good fit".

i'm pretty cautious of any "tummy" issues and honestly i've not had any negative issues since being banded.

i'm guessing this would be a case by case issue - but by all means, it's worth a shot at getting a consult.

sorry about the insurance!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
