Bladder Infection

Recommended Posts

Just went to the walk-in clinic (Sunday). Thought I had a bladder infection and , of course, I do. I am so upset since my surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. The doctor today and the pharmist thought I would O.K. for surgery, but I will, of course, call my surgeon first thing Monday morning. I was put on a 3 day heavy-duty antibotic...

Anyone have something similar to this happen to them prior to surgery? If so, what happened? I will just be nuts if they postponed my surgery!!!

Um, well, you might want to brace yourself. I don't think a surgeon can, in good conscience, work on a patient for this type of surgery if the patient is fighting off an infection and on antibiotics. I mean, my drs said if I even had a cold or flu they wouldn't do the procedure. Best to ask your doctor, but I'm thinking you may have to wait.

I'm SO sorry!!! Hang in there. Stay tough. Get well!!!!

Hey Margo,

If it isnt one thing is another huh? Drink tons of Water with that cranberry juice, they also have cranberry pills (at walmart). Flush that infection right out of you. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that everything goes okay!

Margo, I was scheduled to have surgery on a Tuesday and when I went in for all blood and urine work up before hand I found out I had a UTI. :) They did pospone my surgery to Friday. Sorry, but My surgeon said they CAN NOT do surgery if you have any kind of infection. He put me on a super strong pill and all infection was gone on the a.m. before surgery.(had to have another test) I held my breath until he told me I was clear!

Good luck and drink lots of Water and pee pee pee!! :)

Another thing that helps clear up UTIs quicker is taking (along with real cranberry juice, not sweetened or cocktail or mixed, etc..the real stuff) is to take chewable Vitamin C tablets. Take as much as is allowed (it will say on the bottle). They like the cranberry will help lower your urine's PH which will help clear up the infection sooner. I am sure a couple chewable Vitamin C's won't interfere with the liquid diet.< /p>

Hey ladies...

I called my clinic and the nurse said that I would O.K. for surgery on Wednesday!!! Thank goodness..... I am taking my antibotic, drinking lots of cranberry juice and resting.

J.S.: I had planned to "cry on your shoulder" today if the nurse had told me the surgery was off....it's good to know someone is close and there for you....thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
