Now that I have taken the steps I am soooo Nervous:unsure: I am feeling like something may go wrong during the surgery and I am considering backing out. I am looking for some support and some words od encouragement to get me through to the new me. Please respond if you felt tha same way and give me some advice on how to get through!

I know exactly how you feel. I am being banded Tomorrow! I am excited and scared to death. I am scared about the surgery itself as well as the life style change to come. I hope I can achieve my weight-loss goals. I have considered backing out several times as the time draws near....then I remember that #1 Not everyone has this opportunity #2 I have waited years to be able to do this #3 I want the life, the health, the energy, the self esteem, that the lapband can help me achieve #4 I want to be around for my kids and my husband #5 I want to be able to get on that roller coaster and not feel that I'm too fat to do it #6 I want to sit in an airplane seat and not have to ask for a seatbelt extender #7 I want to walk a flight of stairs and not feel like I'm gonna die when I finally reach the top # I want to LIVE...not stand to the side and watch everyone else doing the things I want to do.

I wish you luck on this journey. Before you think about backing out...ask yourself why you wanted to do this in the first place. That seemed to help me. You Can Do This...Have Faith!

I'm not sure what kind of words of encouragement I can offer all of you. I will tell you that I was just banded 7 weeks ago, I have lost about 35 pounds. I have NEVER PBd or slimed. I was SOOOOOO anxious pre-op it. I am a nervous Nelly to begin with, added to the fact that I had never had surgery before, add that to the fact that I'm a RN and know all the weird things that can go wrong. But everything went FINE! Just take it easy, relax! Do your best to keep your fears and all of the what ifs aside. Life is full of what ifs. Spend a little time thinking about what if you don't have surgery and remain morbidly obese. I wish you all the very best! I look forward to hearing how each of you do. If you have any questions ask away!

I'm a RN too. I think that makes me more anxious thinking of all the things that can happen. That's also why I'm doing the band over a bypass, I have seen way to many horror stories with that surgery.

Hey Rhori - you are in the same boat as us all. I think everyone who writes and reads the posts feels or felt the same to a varying degree.

I was really scared to start with, but I have come to terms with the risks and am now excited (banded in one week). I won't post my blog here, but take a look at my latest entry http://www.lapbandtalk.com/blogs/57499/blog8619.html to see how I got around my concerns. It may well give you another way to look at it!

All the best

Ben

I was banded 2 days ago on the 18th and am feeling pretty good. The surgery was a breeze. One minute I was looking up at the light in the OR next thing I know I was waking up in recovery. I didn’t feel the onset of the drugs or anything else, for me it was a blink of an eye. The first day home the left shoulder pain was pretty bad but it is almost gone today. The cuts sting a little but the pain is very manageable. I'm not really hungry, but am constantly drinking broth, juice, Jell-O and fat free milk to get some calories in.

Don’t dwell on what "might" go wrong, there are tons of people on here that made it thru surgery with little or no problems, I count myself as one.:tt2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
