How does doctor check for leaks?

Recommended Posts

I was banded March 18, 2008 and have lost 50lbs. I know that's really slow but I've always lost slowly. Now, it seems as if weight loss has stopped  and I want to lose at least 30 lbs. more. My next doctor visit is March 9 and he said he will check for a leak. I've really been concentrating on eating healthy and exercising so I don't think it's my diet but this stall has go to GO! How does your doctor check for leaks?

Usually when u go for a fill they remove what u already have in there to make sure its the exact amount they put in last time..so if u had 4cc on ur last fill on this fill he should be able to remove 4ccs from ur band...r u makin sure the calories u eat are the calories ur burnin when u exercise? maybe u stopped losin weight right this second but ur losin inches? how filled is ur band?

Have them check your Fluid level against what was put in you to see if you are missing any. If a significant amount is not lost you can safely rule out a leak. When i was checked for a leak what they did was ......totally empty out my band then under fluoroscopy injected dye into it to pin point the leak.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't taken my measurements yet this month. I have about 6 cc in but I have the large band. Still trying to find the right restriction level so I really have to watch the food intake. My doctor is little conservative on fills to help prevent overfilling.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
