I am starting to plan my vacation while at Disney and making the reservations at the restaurants and so on. I am concerned with what I should eat. My surgery was August 4 and right now I am still on pureed foods, Monday I start minced and then next weekend regular. Will I be able to eat salads and such? I have been craving a salad with some chicken on it and black olives. Do I need to concern myself with this, or will I be OK to basically eat anything that would be considered a healthy choice. Maybe a tuna sandwich or a hamburger?

When is your vacation? When do you get to start solids? If you are on solids while on vacation you can eat anything..a healthier choice is always better however.

I start solids next weekend, so I guess I should try salads and such before I go to make sure I don't have a problem. I don't want to be sitting at the table eating and then suddenly have it come back up. I think my doctors office scared me about foods, they said you cannot eat nuts or swallow pills or popcorn. I love popcorn, I don't know how I will do without that. But I know that thin will feel so much better. so maybe being a little scared is good

Take your transition into solids slowly, to discover what you can and can't handle. I was able to eat pretty much anything once on solids, before my first few fills, but my dietician had me transition from mushies to solids over a period of a month.

I do have difficulty swallowing pills, but popcorn and nuts I can still enjoy when chewed properly. The dietician encouraged me to munch on nuts, as they're a good source of Protein and quite filling. But of course, each doctor's going to have his or her own rules to follow.

Just remember to chew chew chew and take it slow and you should be fine on your vacation. Enjoy it and say hi to Mickey for me :)

I am yet to be filled and probably wont be for 3-6 mths due to some surgery complications, I am ok with pills at the moment but what do you do with them when you can no longer swallow them? Is it safe to crush all pills, or do you have to be more careful than that?

I was so afraid to try salads, I finally did and actually do better on salads than most other solids. I don't do well with chicken or olives. I usually ask for dark leaf salads, and leave off the cucumbers and olives. It's gonna be trial and error, because what works for one of us or 10 of us may not work for you. My band doesn't like ANY kind of potatoes or bread.< /p>

Have a safe trip.

It took me quite a while to get up the nerve to try salads including tomatoes and cucumbers. I'm glad I did try because they are no problem so far. I am glad because I l ike salads for lunch.< /p>

First, let me say that I am so excited for you...I LOVE Disney World! Sicne everyone is so different, just thought I'd let you know that I was banded 3 weeks ago (July22) and I have eaten small, very small, salads and have done great with those. chicken, if it is moist, is also fine. I have not yet had a PB, and I chew my food very well. I have not had a fill yet, and don't know how that will affect anything. Enjoy all the great food at WDW...just small amounts, and don't rush! You might even try telling the restaurant in advance that you are a lap band patient, and see if they will accomodate you by allowing you the child's price? I would do this through your priority seating cast member, or when you arrive at the restaurant. Or, split a plate with your hubby or child? Have fun! Cindy

Depends on what pills your taking. If they're prescription, ask the chemist. Lots of pills are able to be crushed or cut in half. It's the big ones that get me. I'm able to take small Tylenol (minicaps) when I have a headache. The only other thing I take is my Vitamin, which I've found in a liquid form.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
