Just starting this journey

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I am just starting this journey and I am a little anxious. I have tried and failed so many times before that I wonder if this is something that I can succeed at. I have met with the surgeon and am starting the whole pre-op stuff - nutritionist, psych eval, etc. It is good to know that there are folks out there that have been down this road successfully. Thanks (in advance) for all the help I know that I will receive from all of you.

You sound alot like me before being banded.I had tried and failed soooo many times that I was afraid to tell people that I was getting banded. I was worried what some would say if I failed AGAIN after spending so much money on myself. I am here to tell you it works! Remember it is a "tool." You must use it right for it to work , but if you do it is wonderful! It is not easy to get used to the small portions I use a cup saucer for a dinner plate and still dish up more than I can eat. My family calls me a cheap date. HA Ha!! I am 47, was banded 14 months ago and have lost 110 pounds! Everything is easier from tying my shoes to giving the dog a bath! I am so greatful for this procedure! It has changed my life! You should see the looks I get from people that haven't seen me for awhile! Start smiling  you are preparing to change your life!!

Thank you Linda! That is so what I wanted to hear. I am 54 years old and am so tired of being tired and unhealthy. You make it sound wonderful and that is what I needed. Congratulations on your wonderful weight loss and on being so proud of yourself. We all need to feel that way!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
