my date is set...I am so excited and have so many questions, and scared at the same time...when I tell someone about the surgery or mention that I'm getting banded, I usually hear, "Really, I knew someone that got banded, and they gained all of their weight back. That's not going to happen to me!!! Nice to be here.

Are you sure they aren't referring to bypass surgery? Either way, you can prove them wrong! Welcome!

I have not heard of many bandsters gaining their weight back, unless they are not following up with aftercare. However, I hear more stories of by-pass patients gaining their weight back. But really, do your research ahead of time and ask your doctor what the stats are.

It is very rare for a bandster to gain all their weight back but I do know of several people with bypass who have.

I would take any of these comments with a grain of salt. Reading actual studies performed under controlled conditions will give you a better idea of how it works for most people then hearing about the lack of succes of my brother's - girlfriend's - sister's - best friend from grade school's - godmother's - aunt who had . . . and failed because . . . happened.

Thanks for the feedback...i have yet to talk to anyone personally, its like what HeatherO says...a friend of a friend of a friend. So far has made no impact on my decision.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
