Hi I am new - I am 43 and overweight by about 125 lbs I also have Congestive Heart Failure (a very weak heart) so my doctor would like for me to have the laparospic lap band surgery (because my heart would never last a regular surgery) but I have no idea of what to expect - could someone help me!:mad2:

My surgery was a snap. A little pain the day of surgery and the only pain after that was gas. Your dr will tell you how to deal with that. I love my band and wish I had done it earlier. I am 63 and think of all the years I could have been doing instead of watching. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

Hi there!

I'm just one week post op and I would definitely do it again. The worst part for me was the waiting. I had some gas pains, but never took the prescribed pain medication, not because I'm a martyr, but because I really felt like I didn't need it.

You might find yourself becoming hungry at some point either during the pre op diet, (if you have one) or the post op. I've been on full liquids, and that's also very hard.

But the changes I'm already noticing are worth it all!

Good luck to you, and keep asking questions! this site is fantastic!

Debbie

If you follow this link:

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/surgery-day-stories-64287/

You'll find literally PAGES of people giving their "surgery day stories". Short of actually having the procedure, that should give you a good idea! :mad2:

Just remember each person's experience is different. What works great for me, might not be so great for you. When reading and researching on these web site, take the information with a grain of salt and rely on your doctor for advise.

Best wishes!

Taking off some of the excess weight should definitely ease the strain on yoru heart down the road. The surgery itself is not too difficult at all. Good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
