starting the diet

Recommended Posts

Congrats! The first day is the hardest and that is already done and gone. I would say the first 3 - 4 days are the worst and then your body gets used to it. Instead of focusing on how hard the diet is to stick to, I would take the STRENGTH I felt when I could pass by fast food and not stop (even though I was STARVING!). When I was on the Post-Op diet, I was so PROUD of myself for not stopping and knew that each time I kept going, I knew I had the strength to get through the next few weeks of a liquid diet.

I started my liquid diet the first week of December and was on it for 4 weeks - including Christmas and New Years! Was I perfect? Nope. Did I beat myself up for it? Nope. Again, I knew I was going to blow it on Christmas but made sure I was good all the other times.

Remember, we are human and we are in the position we are in due to a lifetime of bad habits. That can't change overnite (otherwise most of us would not be here!). Take strength from the times you are good and focus on that and forget the times you are bad.

Good Luck! And keep strong!

:mad2:

P.S. I am 6 weeks postop and have lost 42 lbs so far!

Hey,

I am on day 4. I do well unless I wait too long inbetween shakes. Then if I see or smell food I want it so much more badly than I would if I kept up better on my protien shakes.< /p>

Also if you mix it up a little that helps. I just mixed some frozen blueberries in with vanilla protien...yum. I wonder if that is allowed? :mad2: Otherwise mix in extracts like mint, rum, and almond. I am sure there are tons more to try but those are the ones I have tried.

Good luck!

Hey my surgery date is 2/25 also... where are you from? My surgeon said pre op you can do that but post op unless in its natural form and can go up a straw you cant have it. so if you blend a strawberry that is no longer in its natural form. But pre op its fine.

Derbin...I am in MN. I am actually headed your way at the end of April though. We have a place just off the beach in San Clemente for a week....I can't wait. I used to visit my cousins out there every summer but it has been almost 10 years now since I have been out there....can't wait to go home!(2nd home lol) Do you think I can lose 50lbs by then? Ha!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
