Hello,

I was just wondering how long once I talk to my doctor, to actually getting the surgery does it usually take? Do a lot of doctors have long waiting lists?

Thanks

it really depends on your surgeon. it is taking me six weeks from my surgeon appointment to the actual surgery

I could have had my surgery 11 days after meeting with the surgeon but couldn't because of work and husband's work related issues.

But from the very first meeting with someone about it until my surgery date it will be 18 weeks exactly. So a little over 4 months.

I would say dealing with insurance and all the appointments you have to do...this is about average for good insurance. If you are self pay it can go super fast. If you have insurance that doesn't want to cover it or has hoops they want you to jump through, it could be a year or more.

If you haven't done so already I would call your insurance company and just see what there policy is on it. Just so you know and aren't shocked down the road.

Good luck!

It really does depend on the surgeon. I had my first appt. with my doctor around Dec. 10th and I'm finally being banded on March 12th. They usually give you a list of things to do before they will send the final approval in to the insurance company. Then the insurance does their approval thing. When all that is completed the surgeon will set your date.

I went in with a LIST of dates I was open to have my surgery and ALL were open...I could have been on the table that next week if I wanted but I wasn't mentally ready. :tt2: My surgeon is a top surgeon in town too. But like others have said...it will depend on your specific doctor.

GOOD LUCK!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
