Just had my third fill yesterday, and noticed a little pain when drinking. I have had zero restriction up until now, and to drink liquids I need to go very slow. I was up most the night with tightness and gas moving around my band...But I've also had a bronchitis for the past week. What do you think? Taking the two hour voyage back to the hospital to get unfilled, or wait to see if it evens out? I have 5cc in my 10cc band, and I'm self pay which means I have one more free fill until I have to start paying for them.

I would stay on liquids only for a couple of days then go to mushies. Sometimes a fill irritates the band and it takes a little while to calm down. As long as you can still drink I think you will be OK.

Hi:

My doctor told our support group that sometimes if you have upper respitory issues (colds, etc.) you can have a tight band because of the drainage. He says just to call and have your band loosened and he'll tighten it back up in a week when you're feeling better.

Warm liquids go down easier for me than cold. Please, if you have issues getting the liquids down call your doctor. You don't want to chance getting dehydrated because that can cause serious problems.

Hope you feel better soon.

Sue

When I had my second fill the PA told me that I needed to drink Water before going home to make sure all was well, and that one of the warning signs to look out for is pain. I would call the doctor if I were you, just to be safe.

I would just wait and see. I have had symptoms like that after a fill and it seems to go away after awhile. You may be advancing your diet to fast. Try soft foods and advance. Good luck.

yeah, that's what i'm made to do right after a fill, and i gulped it down fine...it just got more "swollen" or "tight" a day after...i think you all were right. i'm able to drink..just very slooowly. i ate some malt o meal and it went down fine. ill just give it some more time. thank you!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
