Hello everyone. I am new to the site. I have thought about lapband surgery on many occasions, but never really looked into it. I think I have tried every source there is to lose weight, but I have had very little luck doing so. I am now looking more into the lapband surgery than before. I have read many article on here about people's personal experience with it, and I am more intrigued about it now than ever before. I would like to know, how long the pain lasts after the surgery?

Everyone is different. I place I chose to get my lap band done has banded over 5000 people in 7 years. To me that translates into experience. That being said, I was banded on February 13th and today, February 17th, I am in no real pain. My port is a little sore and I use ibuprofen for that. I've read through a lot of horror stories and inconveniences that people go through after the surgery and I am happy to say that I have had none of that. I'm currently on the liquid phase of post op recovery and doing fine. I'm a little hungry but it's nothing I can't handle. The first couple of days after surgery I took the liquid hydrocodone and if I had any pain I guess I just wasn't aware of it. I was a bit proactive I guess...i figured, they gave me pain meds...why wait until it hurts to take them...but I've even heard of people not taking them at all.

Just remember, everyone is different, so what is painless for one person is not for another. If your'e really serious about the lap band then I would encourage you to do a lot of research locally and be sure to choose a surgeon that has lots of experience and great references. At one point I was interested in possibly going the Mexican route to save money, but when I found Cincy Weight Loss and found out that for a few thousand dollars more I could get all my fills, visits, etc. for free for two solid years after I was banded...that swayed me. I decided to spend the extra money for the long road...and so far it's working well.

Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
