Long-term Banders ???

I'd really like to hear from some long-term banders and how they are doing. I'm still in the "decision" stage of determining what type of WLS do I want. I know the answer will lie somewhere in the LONG-TERM effects. I mean 10 years out, anyone out there who can help me with this type of info?

I am 16 months out. Not sure what you want to know. I am doing great and haven't regretted this decision day one.

I've had my band 37 months! Ask any questions! I am very, very, very happy with my band and even if I never lost another pound, it would all be worth it.

I've read some good accounts - its been done in Australia since the early 90's.

Its a sticking point for me too - I simply cant imagine myself as a 70 or 80 year old with a band. I'm nervous about putting something in my body that's going to be there for that long. And I dont like the thought of the band outlasting my organs, lol

Someone in another post likened the band to a pace-maker. It's a medical tool, one that you will keep for the rest of your life - like an artificial heart or a titanium knee replacement. I hope and pray that I will be able to get the band and keep it forever.

This is a great attitude! I struggled for years with getting used to taking medication for my depression and so this is how I feel about the band. It is a necessary medical device.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
