New to LBT, banded in 07/2006.

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I am new to LBT. I was banded in July 2006 and things have been slow for the past year. I have fallen back to my pre-banding behavior of trying a different diet everyday. I am just beside myself. Also, I think my pouch is stretched and am going to try liquids for a few days to see if it will shrink back to size. I seem to be eating everything that will go through my band and not the things I should. HELP!!!

Welcome to LBT, glad you found us. I think having a good support group has been important for my weight loss..

Have you gone to the doc for a fluero to see if you have stretched the pouch?

Here's a 5-day pouch test some people I know use to reshrink/get back in the game...

Laura,

Thank you for you reply. I went to the website that you posted and this seems a great way to get "back on the wagon". I am really motivated to get going again. The great thing about the band, is that it is always waiting there to be used again....

Exactly! And as time passes with the band, we lose that dedication and excitement, but we can get back on the wagon at any point.

Hope that 5-day pouch test helps!

I haven't done it yet, but the group I frequent several ladies have and they said it helped jump start all those things you remember from when you were first banded.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
