I asked my dietician what to reasonably expect from here on out and she said if I work out 5-7 days a week and stay within 800-1000 calories, I could expect to lose 5 pounds a month. I think Joe Shmoe could lose that. That being said, I just hit my sweet spot and am no longer struglling to maintain such low calories levels which I would not have been able to do otherwise.

Wow, I never thought of it that way. Technology improves faster than I am aware of it.

You are doing wonderful with your lost. 5 pounds a month isn't too agressive . . . I think I probably averaged 6-8 during most of my time banded before pregnancy.

I was also told 800-1000 calories and daily exercise which I stuck to religiously. However, I started plateauing at that calorie level. I lost more weight at 1000-1250 for some reason. I think everyone's metabolism is a little different.

We have a contest here at work too and I went through the same thought process. Should I or shouldn't I? In the end I decided not to join in. Like pbp, our contest is for a nominal prize, but I felt like it would be dishonest to join.

On the other hand, I work for the Coast Guard, and the Coasties are alloted workout time during their workday whereas us civilians have to workout on our own, so in a way, that gives them an unfair advantage.

I thought about doing the contest at the my Local YMCA.

Though, I would think someone who has gotten the Lap band would be alright. Because of the Commitment to lifestyle change.

Bypass, on the other hand, I think would be another story because of the Mal absorption that plays a big effect at first.

FYI....Father (brown team) in the Biggest Loser TV show had bypass WLS. Of course, he gained all the weight back before entering the show. They still accepted him.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
