4 days post op - golf ball feeling?

Recommended Posts

Hello: I am still trying to find my way around. Thank you to the people who responded yesterday. I will take some time today to read the directions to this site - after I stop crying and feeling sorry for myself! I thought the time between the operation and the first fill was when the band was totally open. However, I feel as if a golf ball is stuck in my throat. Is this normal? I have not deviated from the post op diet except to eat some yogurt yesterday because I mixed it with my blood pressure meds - per nurse instructions. I need to take my anti-depressant to regulate the crying jags, however, am afraid to try. I am hoping to return the case of Isopure that I purchased as I can't even look at th bottles without gagging. I will use the powder mixed with Water or (yea) skim milk as of today. Thank you for your help.

Linda. So sorry to hear that you are having rough times. I was a bit weepy after my surgery too. I think the feeling in your throat is normal. Not sure when you had your surgery, but you are probably still swollen and healing. Once you get past the liquids and mushies, you should feel better and be able to eat again. Some people do have restriction before their first fill (I call them lucky). Try to keep busy and remember why you had this surgery and how good you are going to feel soon. I know that sounds easy and IT IS NOT!!! One day at a time. Good luck to you. Take care. Becky

Hi Linda,

Glad to hear you are a bit better today. I think the drugs they give you during the surgery can really mess with your hormones and emotions Don't be too hard on yourself. Everyday you will feel a bit better and stronger.

The anesthesia definately has an effect on your mood, so hang in there. The first couple of days there are some changes going on with your body. Some people can't eat everything, so be careful. I always tell people to remember the basics, chew, chew, chew, cut all food into small pieces (the size of a dice) and don't drink with your meals. Good luck on your journey.

My emotions were crazy my first week too, I feel your pain. i was banded on feb.3-09. I also have had the ball in throat feeling since about 10 days after surgery. It is driving me crazy! I am curious if others have had this and does it go away. I have tried, hot liquids, acisy food and meds, etc. I am on mushy foods now. same feeling... Am I eating too much? I am keeping in the 500 cal limit and only what is allowed...

A bit frustrated, plus haven't lost anything after I started Mushy food....:sad_smile:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
