so... about alcohol...

Recommended Posts

My question is why exactly we aren't supposed to have alcohol, or when I can drink again. I really enjoy a drink when I go out and I just want to know when is it ok?

6 months? a year?

what did you surgeon say? Any bad experiences?

After you've healed from the surgery I think it's ok to drink occasionally. Everything I've been told or read about not drinking relates to empty calories and not other harm. My drink of choice was beer and since I can't have it any more I don't drink much but I did drink a glass of wine at 3 months post op and didn't turn into a pillar of salt or anything!

I had a small glass of red wine yesterday nearly 4 weeks post op & i didnt enjoy it one bit.. took me about 1 1/2 hours to drink it, it was my first drink since new years eve... just didnt like the taste of it & i normally drink red wine, so i'll be giving it a miss for sometime yet

One word of caution, Now I'm a really cheap drunk. Two drinks and I'm ready to swing from the rafters, It's fun because previously to reach this buzz I'd have a hangover from hell the next day.

My surgeon cleared me for the occasional drink, which I've enjoyed, for all that I rarely manage to finish a cocktail. Do be aware of the empty calories in alcohol, though. The other thing I was warned about was transfer addition; most of us were addicted to food to cope with things in the past and, being more or less denied that now, it's easy to switch to something else, whether it's alcohol or exercise or shopping or some other such thing. Just discuss it with your surgeon and keep your eye on your intake and you should be fine.

My birthday is 3 weeks after my surgery, and my surgeon said it is fine to have alcohol as it is liquid. problem with alcohol is the calorie intake...not the substance. Any liquid will pass right through into the stomach. It is best to stay away from ice cream, milk shakes, alcohol as it is easily ingested, but can cause you to not lose weight, as on any diet. Moderation and all is well.

I enjoy red wine every now and again and the occasional long island ice tea, but very rare and the long island usually makes me gain a pound. lol. but, the red wine never made me gain any weight. I don't drink much though.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
