Restricted in morning and Port pain

Recommended Posts

Hello all, this is my first post. I was banded in July of 2008. So far I have only lost around 15 pounds. I have hada few fills. Since my band, I have had great restriction in the morning and it seems to be getting worse. By the evening I can eat without troble. If I drink something hot it seems to help. I am worried because I am not losing much and I get this severe pain in my port area. please any help or advise anyone may have would be greatly appeciated.

What does your doctor say?

I have tight restriction in the morning, so I have a warm beverage, which helps.

I also have tight restriction after I work out, so I usally will eat a couple after the work out in the evening.

I am not sure about your port pain, but I am sure your doctor might have some insight.

As far as weight loss, how is your after care going? Are you exercising, getting fills when you need them, and watching slider foods?

Thanks for the reply. I did tell the doctor about the port pain and he just said that is odd. I also told him about the restriction and he said he heard of that. I am suppose to get a fill on Monday so I will have to see what happens. I do exercise quite a bit. I just dont now what is going on.

Maybe you should have it exrayed or whatever to make sure everything is where it is suppose to be.

Slider food are items that you can chew up easily, swallow, and slide past the band. Some examples are:

  1. Cookies
  2. Candy
  3. Chips
  4. Milk shakes
  5. Mocha's
  6. Alcohol
  7. Soda
  8. Ice cream

Many people are tight in the morning and open all the way at night. I am one of them. I would usually have a shake for Breakfast but could essentially eat anything around dinner time. I also noticed that if I took a nap during the day, I would be tighter when I woke up. I think that it is just a normal part of banding for some of us.

Port pain can be caused by a variety of different reasons. If the pain is strong or if you are really worried, I would call your doctor again to see if they can get you in. The most common cause of port pain in my case was a change in my exercise routine.

My sliders are all the above: Cookies, cake, mochas. I can drink anything hot in the morning. I do have troble with cookies and cake anything in the morning. By evening I can eat anything. I eat salad all the time with turkey, chicken etc. in it for the Protein. I just am upset because I have not realy lost any weight. Please anyones thoughts for suggestion would be appeciated.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
