hot or cold

Recommended Posts

hi everyone

when ur band is tight, what is easier for you to get down, hot liquid or cold liquid.

i read that some dr.s suggest ice chips.. others suggest warm liquids.. just wondered what the general consensus is.. for example.. when you are tight, and you know its just that time of the month.. do you drink hot fluids.. or cold ice chips?

thanks

t

Hot liquids tend to loosen the band up a little bit.

Hi:

I have a hard time if I try to gulp cold liquids. Sometimes it makes me slime :frown:

Hot liquids go down easier for me, especially in the morning.

Cold in New England, so don't mind this issue most of the year. In the summer it's sometimes a hard thing to remember to drink cold liquids slowly, but not really a problem, except after exercising.

I love my band.

Sue

Warm tea is sooooooooo good. Hot coffee--no way. Can't drink it anymore. It's too hot. And cold drinks don't work well at all for me. Instaneous tightening.

Warm tea and broth got me through my first week of banding. And I still drink warm tea ALL DAY LONG. My doc doesn't have a thing with no caffine and I also was a huge coffee drinker prior to banding so I drink tea (w/lemon or plain) am glad to not have to go thru caffine withdrawels. I can't do coffee very well now- I only like it hot and when it is hot it is too hot for my stomach-makes it contract. And it just doesn't sit well. Gives me heartburn like crazy.

Warm. I forget sometimes and take a big swallow of cold drink and lose it completely. Thanks for reminding me to remember good band rules.

I always use warm liquids to loosen up my band. The first drink I have almost every morning is herbal mint tea. YUM! Occasionally, I'll have a cup of coffee, but I'm addicted to my mint tea. I still enjoy my cold drinks, especially Decaf iced tea, just not first thing in the morning, and I can't gulp them like I used to.

Cold drinks are TERRIBLE with my band. I try to drink them, and I tighten up REALLY bad... Ice is no longer my friend. And before, I was quite the ice chewer...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
