PCOS and Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Today I'm wondering if anyone out there has PCOS and got lap band. I personally was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 years ago and was told that losing weight would be the only thing to get my hormones in check and eventually be able to concieve. I was banded 1/16/09 and have already seen some differences in my body. So, anyone out there? Do you have PCOS and have your symptoms gone away with weight loss? :frown:

Thanks!

I have pcos, among many other problems. I'm done having children, but my sugar issues have completely become in check. I no longer see my endcrinologist, as I'm considered glucose intolerant now. In a year I'll be cured. :blushing: I don't get AF, but I get pms still, and it's pretty regularly at 28 days now. My hair loss and skin problems seem to be normalizing now too. So I would have to say yes.... it's helping my pcos.

I have PCOS and had 6 failed IUI cycles with clomid and injectables. Banded two weeks ago and believe it or not, I ovulated this week. I normally go 2-3 months between cycles and just finished a cycle 2 days before surgery. Needless to day I am very optimistic that we will conceive this year once I get more weight off and my hormones go back to normal! Feel free to email me and good luck!

I never believed that losing weight would actually help/clear up PCOS, mainly because I just didn't want to accept I needed to lose weight!! But I am living proof it's absolutely true. After about 4 months post-op, I had my period, and ever since then I have had a period every month, and I can pretty much predict it. Completely new experience for me. And I hope this isn't inappropriate to say, but sex has gotten 1 billion times better. :tt2: Alot of the time before, sex was painful most of the time because of the Fluid filled cysts on my ovaries. Best of luck to you and in your journey....

I also have PCOS. I am hoping this helps it. I have found it impossible to loose weight any other way. We do have one son as we did fertiltiy for two years to get him. I can't wait to see if this helps the other PCOS symptoms! Hang in there!

HELLO!!!!

I was diagnosed with SEVERE HELLISH PCOS almost 3 years ago. Suffered for 8 years...getting progressively worse. I heard about PCOS/BANDING last summer and began researching the heck out of it as my last resort (been to 23 doctors trying to get some relief). My PCOS was so awful that I was calendaring my symptoms daily on the calendar...severe mood swings, severe hormone Migraines, different body odor, extreme fatigue...just to name a few. I wanted to die. Literally....48 hrs after my surgery it felt like it was RAINING on the inside of my body and I knew it was making hormones again. I haven't calendared a PCOS symptom since!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!! What's cool...if you go to your doc and have a vaginal ultrasound 3-4 months after being banded...PCOSers are being told the ovaries are no longer covered with cysts.

GOOD LUCK to us all!!!!

I have PCOS and I had the surgery on 1/14. So far, I have lost 18 lbs since surgery and I'm doing fine. I'm hoping for improved fertility as well. I have a 6 year old and required surgery to remove endometriosis and clomid because of PCOS. I was able to conceive after 2 years of trying, but I'm hoping next time will be easier. Good luck with your journey!

i also have PCOS...although i am hoping for fertility in a few years, i am hoping to feel much better right now :sneaky:

i had horrible mood swings, on top of the insulin resistance, excess hair, acne, Hair loss etc.

i have lost 28lbs so far, and i feel much better....not sure if thats just cause i am finally losing weight or what...but it seems to be helping in some way.

every other diet i have tried has failed...i lost initally but then it all came back...i hope the band works and i am able to keep the weight off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
