A few questions after post op

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just got banded on Feb 9th and I am following the Water and Jello stage for two weeks. My question to anyone who may be able to help is did any of you feel dizzy and weak? I find that periodically I am getting dizzy and have to sit down or else I am afraid I will fall down. If anyone has any tips on how to overcome this please advise. I can take the not eating part its the dizzy part I am having trouble with.

Water and Jello for two weeks? And nothing else? I know all doctors have different post-op requirements, but that seems a little extreme to me. If it's sugar-free Jello, then you are really not taking in any nutrition at all, so it's no wonder you are weak and dizzy. Generally, people are allowed Protein drinks, broth, diluted fruit juices in the first couple of weeks. You might want to call your doctor to verify his post-op diet requirements, and if Water and jello are indeed all you are supposed to eat, ask what you can do to combat the dizziness.

I did feel somewhat weak and shaky at the end of the first week post-op, but I was allowed the things I mentioned above. I did notice that I was only getting about 300 calories a day. When I added a different Protein Drink with a higher calorie count, it brought my calories to 400 or so, and that little difference made me feel better.

Hope you feel better soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
