HELP...I've hit a PLATEAU

Recommended Posts

I was banded Sept 2, 2008 and have lost 46 lbs to date but I have been there now for at least 2 to 3 weeks and I'm taking 3-4 exercise classes a week (sometimes more) and training a couple times a week for 30 min at a time. I have good restriction and eat pretty healthy so I'm not really sure what I should be doing? I know other banders have been where I am. What did you do to get over your plateau?

I think you are doing great. I"m a slow loser and don't exercise enough. I think most people will tell you to log your food intake and check the calorie counts. Remember eating to little will also throw you into no loss mode. On the upside if that's your problem YEAH, you get to eat more.:frown:

If I were to get a fill right now I would be PB'ing ALL the time. I have very good restriction. I'm just now sure if I should pick up the workout intensity. I may be eating too little. I'm going to begin journaling again.

What did you do to get over your plateau?

hubby would hide my scale & hand me a tape measure. are you losing inches? i found when the scale didn't move, i was really dropping inches & clothing sizes.

non scale victories are just as satisfying.....

Thanks! I have been consumed with weighing myself. I will start measuring more and weigh less.

Hi, I too have been on a plateau for about the last month. I analyze and think, I don't really eat all that much. Sure sometimes I don't make the right choices, but I'm overall pretty healthy. But maybe I'm not eating enough. I always heard you have to eat to lose weight. Hell, they even preach that on the biggest loser. I do write down what I'm eating but I haven't tallied the calories. I think I should be eating around 1200 calories, but how much fat should I be consuming? I go Monday to get a fill, maybe I should ask them .

I know it may sound crazy but take a few days off from exercise and then start back with something completely different. Change your routine often. I rarely do the same exercise 2 weeks in a row. That is what has worked for me and I have been very successful.

alyciaboo - i too have a 10cc band and went as high as 8.5ccs before i found any kind of restriction. i'm at 6.5ccs currently and trying to find the least amt needed to maintain......

not sure why you can't go higher than 8cc? i joked to my dr that i bought a 10cc band & if 10 was what i needed - you best fill me up...LOL but i was serious.

I have a 10cc band and I'm at 4.8 cc's which was my third fill at which time I felt good restriction.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
