Dizziness weeks after surgery

Recommended Posts

I was banded 2 1/2 weeks ago. Every time I bend over or if I'm squating and I come up to a standing position, I get dizzy. Is this normal? I am eating 1.5 oz of Protein three times a day and taking my Vitamins. Does anyone else have this problem?

have you checked your blood pressure? it might be low... many hypertensive bandsters end up going off their meds within a few weeks because their BP lowers so much after surgery.

When I went to my 1st post op appt, my blood pressure was real low. Within days it was normal. They didnt say what caused it. But i was dizzy a lot.

I had that same problem with standing up right after surgery. The nurses at the hospital said to just make sure you do everything slowly.

When I was lying down in bed, I would prop myself up, then sit up, then swing my legs over the edge, and then fully stand up. I just had to give myself some time to adjust to each phase, so I'd rest a second to make sure I was okay.

Maybe instead of squatting or bending, try to sit on something instead. That way you can sit back upright after bending over, wait a second, and then stand up when you're ready.

I'm not sure about the correlation with blood pressure, especially if it's just dizziness when you're standing back up, as opposed to all the time randomly.

Take your time

This also happens sometimes when your electrolytes are out of wack, try drinking some watered down gatorade.

Ask your Primary care doctor about this. That's your safest bet!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
