I too had a glass of wine 2.5 weeks after my surgery, while celebrating my childs birthday. We had a friend in from out of town, and she and I would easily drink a few bottles of wine in a night. That night I had a glass, maybe 2 at the most. I drank them slowly and cautiously. They did go right to my head. This was a controlled situation, I was at home, and in a safe location. (I wasnt driving or anything)

I agree that you should check with your Dr first. I told my Dr after (at my fill) he didn't say much, but what can he really say after the fact? He told me to be very cautious with alcohol, because it will affect me differently now, and watch the empty liquid calories.

I was at a gathering about 3 wks post op - had two sips of a glass of wine & said nope - this isn't working, and handed it over to my mother. I found I just didn't want it.

Now I have a drink or glass of wine socially

Me and my hubby and kids go to the bahamas every year well if and when I lose my weight my hubby and I will want to go alone without kids. I never drink because of my medications. All those yummy frozen drinks on the beach are a no no for me. My ? is if I lose the weight and get off my meds would it be okay to have a couple of those drinks and get a little crazy with my hubby or is it imposable to drink a couple with the lap band? Will it hurt the band ?

Just stay away from carbonated beverages and recognize that any alcohol you drink is going to slow down your loss for that period of time.

I had surgery Jan 4th and my first glass of wine Jan 17th. I've periodically had wine or margaritas since then.

The good news is that you can get a very nice buzz from 1 or 2 drinks. The bad news is you can get a very nice buzz from 1 or 2 drinks. LOL

I went out 6 weeks post op - and didnt just have a little to drink either. I was fine. I wouldnt have drank before that though - and I was nervous. It did hit me kind of fast - but hey - I only go out a few times a year and am not going to stop having drinks. I say moderation is the key - although, I didnt use a lot of moderation that weekend

I am no Dr. but that liquid percocet that I took religiously every 4 hours the first 5 days post op were A LOT more damaging on my liver than any glass of wine. I would say that I glass of wine or cocktail here or there would be just fine just don't go out and get wasted. I went out on Valentines night (nearly 3 weeks post op) and had a few glasses of saki (it was the only thing that kept me sane in a sea of delicious and inedible sushi) I had a nice buzz but then stopped and made sure to drink plenty of Water. Was a little hungover the next day because I had not had a drink in over a month but otherwise I felt okay. Nothing compared to the after effects of the pain medication. I felt strung out from them for atleast 2 days and I didn't even finish the prescription! everything is okay in moderation! :blushing:

I was banded on 10/23 and had 2 glasses of wine on Halloween. It was totally fine. My doctor just cautions that you shouldn't drink too much in view of the calories.

ALSO -- very importantly -- you should be really, really careful not to let ANYONE talk you into overindulging at this party or to pressure you into doing shots, etc. You need to avoid being hungover to the point of throwing up at all costs b/c you could rip out your stitches & cause your band to slip.

Hope that helps!

Catherine

I only waited for about 7 days. I then had a godmother (vodka and amaretto) and it went straight to my head! The next night I had another and I plan on having one this Friday. I was banded on 02/05/09.

I think I had a margarita like 8 weeks out. I would think a glass of wine would not hurt anything. What I do find is that a little goes a lot longer now (which is kind of nice less money and less calories). It is not like you are doing this everynight, have fun!!

Not that I an alcoholic or anything but this is nice to know. As a 25 year old woman it is nice to know that when I go to a bar with friends and everyone is singing kareoke (sp?) and puonding down drinks I know that I don't have to make 1 drink last 4 hours.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
