Obsessed with numbers?!?!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I had my surgery on November 3rd of 2008 . I have lost 25 pounds since the surgery and I am very pleased but yet,I still think it should be more. Am I being just plain silly. I know everyone is different but I can't help but be greedy with my weight loss lol.

I've had only one fill ,which is on January 8th and so far,I don't feel like I need another one. My weight loss tends to be sporadic, for example i'll go a whole week without losing anything and then i'll be down 2 pounds the following week. I am exercising on average of 4 to 5 times a week which I probably should kick it up a notch but anywhoo,to all you experianced bandsters, does this seem normal? Thanks !

I'm just 3 days post-op so certainly not an experienced bander, but I've read a lot on these boards and from what I've read and understood, your weight loss is completely normal and you should be happy with your success thus far

your weight loss right now is avg 2 pounds per week which is normal. With the band its not as fast as gastric and avg weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week Therefore you are doing great and right on schedule.

Sounds like we're going at just about the same rate! I was banded only a few days before you and am down just about 25 lbs. I'm feeling great about it -- don't stress about your nos. Sounds like you are right on target.

I was banded 9 days after you and I too have lost 25 pounds since surgery. 1-2 pounds a week is what they say is normal so were all right on. Great job and keep up the good work!

It is absolutely normal and you are doing great so far.

I felt the same obsession over numbers at that stage after banding . . . because I had been down 25 pounds before. It is not until you start breaking new ground and get to 50+, 75+, etc that you start to really move away from emphasizing numbers and feel a lot different.

Just think of where you will be by summer if you continue to lose 1-2 pounds per week. I had the most fun with that. June will put you at xxx weight and size ??? . . . July will be . . . , and on and on.

You are doing great so far, definitely enjoy your success while knowing there is much more to come in the not so distant future.

First I want to thank you girl next door for posting this question, and thank everyone who replied. You have all made me feel sooooo much better. I was banded on 12/13/08. I have lost 20 pounds. I was told by the NP that filled me on 1/27/08 that I should be losing 3 pounds a week. I have been working out 5 days a week and still I am losing 2 lbs a week. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong but now I feel better. I don’t want to lose the weight too fast because I don’t want the droopy skin. But at the same time I thought I needed to be losing at least 3 lbs a week. So I was starting to obsess over it. Thank you all for putting my mind at ease.

I'm considered a 'fast' loser and I average about 2lbs a week (often less, only very occasionally more).

I know it's easy to get obsessed with numbers - I'm often still obsessed with them - but a lot of things affect those numbers - Water retention, muscle growth etc. Your changes in clothes sizing and your measurements will give you a better indication of the changes to your body that the scales will sometimes.

I read somewhere recently about a bander who was exercising 6 times a week who lost NO weight in over a month, but who went down a dress size plus some in that time!

I am so glad that I found this thread. I have been really upset today because it has been over two weeks and my weight has not gone anywhere. It has stopped altogether it sames to me anyhow. Thank you for the up left in my spirits. I was banded on 1/8/09 and lost about 30 lbs after post op. What can I do to get it to move again. I would love to break that 230 mark for good. Thanks for listening to me.

I lost 38.4 before surgery and 25 since surgery. Im glad that I found this thread and Im not the only one wishing I was loosing faster. I know that we were told only about 1-2 pounds a week and I appreciate every pound I have lost and have worked by butt off for every single one. Keep us posted on your journey and good luck!

Yeah, my doc was always really really pleased whenever I went in with what I'd lost. And I never averaged more than 2lb per week!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
