What's up with that fill?

Recommended Posts

I was banded 12/31/08 and had 3 cc in a 10cc band. I was feeling some restriction. I just got my first fill 2/6/09. Another was inserted, so now I have 4 cc.

Can anyone explain why I now feel LESS restricted? I want to eat more, but don't and am hungry all the time.

Give it a full week to see if it kicks in, then if you have a gut feeling your just not as restricted as you should be, make an apt to have your Fluid level checked to make sure the last fill actually made it into your band.

I had port revision one week ago and they put 4.5 in my 10 and (1st fill ever) and by monday, I had to have 2.5 removed b/c I was throwing up all weekend. Then today, I had a complete unfill cause I cannot keep Soup down. Please help. Are you supposed to throw up afer fills? Is my band failing me?

I don't think I would have went with a fill and another surgery at the same time. You body is sore and irritated. Your stomach is grumpy. Let the swelling go down for 2 weeks or so and try again. I'm sure your doctor will start much smaller this time, maybe 1-2cc. Also, personal here, were you on your period or near it? I totally have to avoid fills during the week to week and half around mine. My band goes haywire and gets overly tight.

I would call my doctor to get their feedback.

On January 14, I received a 1cc fill, so when I left the doctor's office I was suppose to have 5cc in a 10cc band. But several days later, I knew there was something wrong. I was hungry a couple hours after eating a healthy meal (meat and veggies). Plus, I was drinking a Protein bullet, because the hunger was really getting unmanageable.

So I called my doctor and stated something was wrong. They got me in on January 28 and took out the old fill. I lost 1cc. We are not sure why this happened, but it day and we will continue to monitor the situation.

Anyway, they gave me back my 1cc plus put another .5cc in. My grand total is now 5.5cc, but we will see what I really have when I go in for a check up in March.

Just maybe you lost some fill, like I did. It doesn't hurt to talk to your doctor about it.

Good luck!:tt2:

It can take up to 4 weeks to feel restriction from the fill. Or, that's what Wendell Edwards said in the sticky at the top of this Thread Branch. (http://www.lapbandtalk.com/members/5059.html)

And I quote, "A fill may have a “Delayed Action” of up to 4 weeks. A “Delayed-Action” means that the fill may not become effective for up to 4 weeks after the fill."

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
