Jayna just remember you'll probably have a lifting restriction (depends on your surgeon) so if your two kids are still at a "pick up" age, you might have issues. Be sure to discuss with your doctor.

And I had surgery on Friday and was back in school on the next tues., but as a student. Your schedule is really full, though, and aside from healing you'll not be eating much the first two weeks, so get as much time off as you can.

I took two weeks off. I have a full-time stationary job and I was in school full-time at the time (I am now done with school, just need to submit the thesis).

I have two older adult children (one at home who is mentally ill and the other who lives out of state) so I did not have to worry about taking care any small kids.

However, being single and not telling anyone about the details of this surgery, left me on my own for recovery. I planned ahead a time and purchased all my supplies in advance. And when my supplies ran short and I could not drive, I went on line and had groceries delivered.

As far as cooking, I bought items that my son could heat up in the microwave, which I know is not the best of nutrition, but I just wanted to really focus on me and recover; not cook.

I cleaned the house spotless before surgery, because I did not want to deal with it during recovery. I purchased my RX meds the day before surgery.

All in all, I did well with recovery at home. By day 7-post op, I felt great. By two weeks, I was so ready to get back to work.

Good luck!

I originally planned on taking 6 days off of work from 2 demandingly physical jobs. I intended on going back to school 4 days after surgery and that never happened either. I ended up taking 2 weeks of of work and a week from school. I started to feel a little like myself by day 10.

If I hadn't had someone there with me I would have been in tough shape.

But do remember that everyone is different and recovery is very different in every single person.

I do wish you luck and congrats on starting a happier and healthier future.

Thank you for all your great advice. I am really nervous about the entire thing. The more I read the more nervous and excited I get. I know that its not magic that you have to work at it I know that but I have lost weight I just can't keep it off so I hope that this will help. How are you doing with your journey?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
