Confused - Can you help?

Recommended Posts

I just had my 1st fill last week. I can totally feel the restriction if I eat too fast or take too big a bite. I am confused as to what the band is supposed to do. Does is make you slow down your eating and take smaller bites or is it suppose to get you full faster and keep you full? I have restriction, but it seems I don't get full like I thought I would. I feel like I can eat more than I thought I should be able too. sorry if I am confusing you. I guess I jsut don't know when I should get another fill.

Thanks in advance and have a great day!

Restriction will make you feel full longer. Eating too fast, not chewing well, or eating non-band friendly foods will make you uncomfortable or have pain. Most people don't feel any restriction after the first fill. I know I didn't and I was still really hungry after a couple of hours. So yes the band does make you eat slower and chew better and once you have restriction it will make you feel full longer. But until you get the proper amount of restriction, it is still will power that gets you from meal to meal.

With a fill you should feel full for longer periods with less food.

However, since you were just recently banded and just had your first fill, you more than likely have not reach full restriction or sweet spot. For some people it can take several fills and it depends how much your doctor fills you with.

If you are eating more than what you thought you could, please realize it does take time and you will get there. Hopefully with more fills you will reach a spot where less food keeps you feeling full longer, thereby helping you lose more weight.

Thanks for your help. I guess I haven't got to that "Sweet Spot" everyone is talking about. Can't wait to reach that little step. Thanks again.

And don't forget, most of us have a rather skewed perception of what "full" is. Until you reach the sweet spot, I'd suggest you not try to eat til you are full. Instead, put the amount of food recommended by your doctor or nutritionist on your plate and eat only that. Make your meal last 20 minutes. When you have finished what is on your plate, stop, think, and ask yourself if you are still hungry. You'll probably be surprised to find that you are not. You may still WANT to eat more, but if your true, physical hunger is satisfied then you have had all you need. I encountered this very early after moving from liquids to soft foods, and it was kind of a WOW moment!

Remember - don't eat as much as you CAN; eat as much as you SHOULD. :crying:

That's great advice, Misty. Our eyes can deceive us, and I've found measuring my food really helps keep me in check.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
