I will be 3 weeks post op on Friday the 13th, and yall I am so damn hungry. I have been eating the full liquid diet (yogurt, cream Soups, Jello, etc.) but they are not enough. I don't have my first fill unitl March 9th. I am craving salad so bad. The funny thing is that I don't crave the sweets, or junk food that I use to eat ever so faithfully before surgery. I crave all the healthy foods but dont know if I can have them. Salad is my favorite "healthy food" to eat and I want some so bad. Do you think I can eat some, even if I chew it up really good. I'm afraid that when I get my first fill I won't ever be able to eat salad because I've heard all the horror stories of some who can't tolerate the lettuce anymore. Any suggestions?:crying:

I think you should follow your doctor's post-op diet instructions. When do you start mushies and solids?

If you cannot start mushies yet, then call your doctor and ask if you can?

Heaven,

It is very normal to feel hunger at this point. You should definitely follow your doctor's guideline on what you should eat however. It is very important you stick to your routine.

It doesn't last forever, hang in there! It can be done, and any of us will tell you that. It's not easy, oh no - but nothing worth doing ever is.

Once you are allowed to go to mushie foods you should start to feel better

Follow your doctor's guidelines. You can call and ask if you can add in soft foods, such as refried Beans, mashed potatoes, etc. But salad is hard to tolerate for some people even when they are fully healed and no longer swollen. That won't be on your menu for a while.

But do call and ask your doc about adding in some softer Protein type foods. My first one was cottage cheese. It helps, but you will have to deal with some hunger until you get restriction, which can take a while.

OMG too funny. I'm 2 weeks out too and I'm having the same problem as you. I am on mushy foods though. But like you I am craving a salad. Hang in there. Make sure you are drinking your Protein Shakes. Those help make you feel full. Make sure you eat slow. That helps too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
