does anyone actually work out??

Recommended Posts

yes i do work out i work out alot some people say maybe way to much for what most do but i like it because it makes me feel good about myself that i am accomplishing new lifestyle changes and that is what this surgery means to me. i work out about 5 days a week for about an hour to an hour and half a day. i work out about 3 days with a personal trainer and we do resilence training along with core and balance. which has helped me tremendously. and i also do about 45 minutes to an hour of cardio a day. i do everything from running to the eliptical and even on my laziest days i do the bike which isnt much but hey im still moving and that still counts alittle lol. when i weighed 250 lbs i use to be able to do 45 minutes of cardio and burn about 3000 calories a day but now since i am smaller my body dont burn as many calories a day like it use to since it dont have to work harder to keep me going everyday. so i have to do more cardio to compensate. here is a website that might be interesting to you its a 20 minute cardio work out that you can do that is comparable to 40 minute cardio work out.

Sizzle calories: Workouts: self.com

also if you are commited to working out and if you really want to do this i suggest the bodybugg i dont know if you ever watch biggest losers but those arm bands they wear around there arms are bodybuggs and they are the best thing you can buy for yourself in helping you lose weight.

the reason why i say that is it calculates how many calories you burn throughout the day so you know how much you need to eat or how much you dont need to eat. it really does take the guess work out of calories in and calories out. also you can even look at that if you dont know why you are not losing any weight. plus it keeps you motivated to reaching your goal everyday. the website to learn about that is www.bodybugg.com the best place to buy one is prob going to be 24 hourfitness if you are already a memeber of the gym you can get one at a discounted price if not you will pay more for one.

good luck in your journey wish you well

karen

Yes, I did during those two phases. And I continue too now.

During both phases, I walked on my treadmill with an incline. I could not go very far or go very fast, but I did work out. I started off at 20 minutes, then 30 minutes, then 45, minutes, then 50 minutes, and now I do 60 minutes 5X times a week.

During the pre-op and post op diets, the incline I started off at was 2%, but now ranges from 4% to 5%. The distance was 1 mile, then 1.25 miles, then 1.5 miles, then 2 miles and now I am at 3.40 miles.

Plus, every other day I would do upper body work-outs with light hand weights. I would use Sparkpeople.com videos, which taught me how to properly stand and position myself with the weights.

During pre op I was working out on the elliptical for 45 minutes, five times a week, doing interval style training.

Post Op, I began walking outside, an hour after I got home from hospital. By 3 weeks, I was doing regular paced, 5K walks, and I went back to the gym, and started the elliptical again, by 3 months I began running.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
