I, too, am being banded on the 13th...I hear from some friends about it being Friday the 13th and aren't I scared. I think it is going to be a lovely day for all of us on the 13th. :)

Here's another "Lucky Looser" that will go on Friday the 13th! I'm looking at it as my LUCKY day!

I know I found another lady that is not only having hers on the same day, but same surgeon and same location! We even have the same pre-op date of the 3rd.

Ack...I am starting my pre-op diet tomorrow. My surgeon likes 2 weeks of a high Protein liquid diet...and if I need to chew something, carrots or beef jerky...this is going to be so difficult. I will be strong, but I pity my family...hehe

Hi Girls!! I'm not the 13th, but I am the day after on the 14th. I started my pre-op diet today as well. Hoping to lose a few pounds before the actual surgery date. Maybe we can all stay in touch with our recovery... since we will all be having our surgery around the same time.

My dr doesn't require the liquid diet, but from everything I've read, it seems like the smart thing to do. My nutritionist set me up with the following plan: 60 - 80 grams of protein/day - I will have 3 - 4 high Protein shakes/day with approx. 14 g protein each. At lunch will be 4 oz turkey or chk and dinner 4 oz fish or chk. Right now I am using Optifast, but they are expensive. I think I will switch to the Atkins high Protein Shakes next week.

My surgery date is March 11. I thought I'd share my find. (Not actually my find, someone suggested it to me.) My pre-op diet (at least 12 days prior to surgery):

Breakfast: up to 2 cups skim milk mixed with one scoop of Iso Pure No Carb Protein powder. (at GNC stores)

Lunch: Same as Breakfast

Dinner: Frozen dinner under 300 calories

Optional:

GREEN salad (only green stuff) with a tiny bit of Salad Dressing

Fat-free, sugar-free ice popsicles are okay (no more than 3 a day)

**Most importantly at least 64 oz of Water daily**

My doctor also requires a clear liquid diet 2-3 days before surgery.

Good luck on everything! Stay strong.

Thanks for sharing...isn't it amazing how different all the pre-op diets are. They also don't seem to be really guided by size either...I have seem larger people on here not have to do pre-op (so unfair ) and smaller ones who do....just wish there was some general idea. I ate green bean yesterday as I made them for my family and felt guilty....1 green bean. How silly am I.

Good luck all!! We are all going to do GREAT!

Well I survived. :lunch: I am doing pretty well considering everything. Actually today I am going to take a bus trip across to see a launch. I have been walking everyday to help get that gas out and sleeping in my lazyboy sofa. Not too bad really... just one TMI thing the liquid post op diet is wreaking havoc on my digestive system as it was before the surgery... ugh. Hoping imodium I started today will kick in. BUt overall... just the distention of my tummy and the betadine still on the skin where the tape is, itchy incisions, no complaints. I figured out since starting this journey I am now down 34 lbs. If you had asked me on Sunday and MOnday, I kept wishing they could just rip the darn thing out of me. I haven't told anyone at work or even my family except my husband. So hoping everyone is doing as well.

I'll check back in. Sorry it took me so long but my computer crashed and I didn't find my password right away.

Take care!

M

Wow, M! 34 pounds - congrats!!

So, you're on Day 4 post op, right? Glad you're improving! I'm right at the 24 hour mark...and doing ok (see my updates under March 16 if interested). When did you start walking? I've been making trips around the house every couple hours, but nothing extensive. Also, what have you been eating? I've only had ice chips, Jello and applesauce so far - kind of afraid to eat.

Another March 13 person here! Doing ok, still a little sore.

Have been eating pureed fruit, custard, white fish in sauce, stuff like that.

I have been able to eat more than I thought I would; sometimes I feel really hungry but most of the time am not interested due to weird feeling in chest.

TMI - definitely badly constipated, have taken laxative stuff today to try to help.:lunch:

I walked 3 times the night that I was in the hospital and then the day I came home. I think I walked around my house a bit when I got home and then yesterday I went to the grocery store and then took a walk in the afternoon down the street and back. Today I walked all the way around a mall. I rode a bus for 5 hrs round trip and didn't see the launch because it got scrubbed at the last minute. GRRR. So... overall I am feeling pretty good but the distention is distracting and the incision itching is pretty intense but from my recollection, itching is good because it means it is healing. Oh and the imodium is working great. No problems on the bus whatsoever!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
