Anyone under a super stressful long term situation

Recommended Posts

suddenly develop an inability to eat solids?

Long story short (ok not so short)- trying to sell home for over four years- get a contract and buyer in April, go through all hurdles, give them the property, change the zoning, get everything done, rearrange your life, and etc- they have to move closing date so they can get better interst rate or something (course I lose ours and it will cost 40K mire over the life of our loan and that is not important to them) and I have no other buyer in site and not likely to have anyone else thinking of it till next spring

Sorry about your situation...I have been under some serious long-term stress, but have not found an issue with eating solids. HOWEVER, I have only been banded 3 weeks, and don't try to eat a lot of hard food...chopped meat has been okay...crabcakes, hamburger, etc. I haven't really attempted a whole chicken breast or something like that.

I hope things work out for you, Cindy

Jane, I've only been banded for 2 weeks, so I'm no help on the solids issue, but I know my stomach was twisting in sympathy knots for you just reading your post! There are few things more stressful than trying to sell your home. Good luck, and I hope everything turns out well for you!

Well, there is long term stress, and there is long term stress. Selling a house is one of those top of the chart stressors. Sorry about your stress.

I do know that when Im stressed I'm more restricted than when I'm not. Perhaps you should get an unfill until this is over and settled?

Jane, when my husband was hospitalized in June, my stomach went in to spasms every time I walked in there. My restriction, which had been fine, suddenly became super tight & I had to go on liquids, mylanta & finally unfilled till I calmed down. I was told that major stress (not the everyday kind we all have) can cause major restriction. Hope this helps & that things go well for you.

I know that under stressful times my band becomes super tight. I dont even have to eat and I can feel the restriction. I have been married for 10 years. This month on the 19th its our annaversary. However, we have been going thru some hard times...fighting, blah blah blah, you know the drill. It took me some soul searching to get to a good spot mentally, however the stomach hasn't caught up to my brain yet. I got stuck last night on chicken...and I got stuck again this morning on eggs...scrambled stupid eggs got stuck! I am going to do Protein Shakes for a couple of days I think, till my stomach is able to catch up to the rest of me....

I've been banded just over 2 weeks. I'm scheduled for my first fill on August 25th. However, my husband is leaving next Tuesday - August 16th - he has to go to Iraq for 18 months - Military Police. Should I not get a fill then? I'm already stressing - havn't really started on solid foods yet - only tried a few mushy ones. If stress restricts me even more I won't even be able to breathe. My first 2 weeks I lost 11.5 pounds, but now I've been stuck there for 5 days.

yesyesyesyesyes. haha.

I wont go into too much detail, but suffice to call it a family feud. I got my last fill in November of '04, and was pretty tight, but doing okay, and this feud started and I got a bit tighter (trouble with many solid foods, but still able to eat some) and then it really came to a head and I was on liquids for 2 weeks before finally getting a small unfill. The tension must still be there because I haven't opened back up like I was expecting to, and I'm doing fine on my current restriction level.

Hope it all works out for you :)

Cheryl, some of us start pretty tight and don't need a fill as soon as others. Everyone is different, and you might need a fill by week 6-8, and you might not. I know that Capt'n Jack didn't need his first fill until quite recently. You might not either.

Please don't let this add extra stress, the thought of possible stress stressing you out. Hope that made sense.

Talk to your doc at you fill appointment. You might need a fill, and you might not. Do not let this add to your stress. You have enough to worry about. In the grand scheme of things, right now, getting a fill is the least of your concerns.

Also, Cheryl, you are currently under a huge amount of stress. Stress actually inhibits weight loss, something to do with the steroids your body produces. And, of course, the first few weeks are for healing, not losing weight. As hard as it is, please don't worry about losing weight right now. Do NOT compare your journey with anyone else. Right now, your course may feel full of jagged boulders and broken glass, up hill because of what your husband is facing. Other people have a walk on the beach or a ski slope.

You will do fine, trust me.

My doctor is the one who told me to come in for a fill. It'll be just at 4 weeks from surgery. I thought I should wait until I started solids to see how restricted I would be (not to mention that I'm kinda nervous about it). Also, thank you so much for your support - it means a whole lot to me. One minute I think I'm fine and everything's gona be alright - the next I'm hyperventilating(?) Multiple personalities maybe.

No Cheryl, it's call "deployment." Since you said MP and not SP, I'm guessing he's in the Army. Y'all don't have alot of experience deployments of any sort of durration.

(Navy wives laugh their butts off whenever Army wives are on the news... *sniff, sniff* he'll be gone for two whole weeks....WAAAAA*. To a Navy wife a month det is a welcome break!)

The emotional rollercoaster you are on is completely normal and to be expected. It is very, very hard to prepare for what your family is going through.

Go to your appointment, but be very honest with your doc. If you are still tight, then get a fill later. Your doc is your partner in this, not your boss.

Actually, he's a SGT in the Florida Army National Guard - one weekend a month - 2 weeks a year. The longest he's ever been gone was 4 months after 9/11, then last summer for 2 months for all the hurricanes. So 18 months for us seems like a lifetime. I actually did think about waiting til he returned to get my band, but thought how "romantic" it would be for him to come home to a cute, sexy, little wife and sweep me off my feet (it's been many years since he's been able to do that).

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
