New-Exploring Options-Seriously Considering Lap Band

Recommended Posts

All of your posts are so helpful! I've been seriously overweight my entire adult life, yo-yo dieting for 20+ years, and I feel I'm ready for a drastic change. Gastric bypass is not an option I would choose for myself. Lap Band seems like a much safer option. I like the idea of starting over with a stomach like a new baby's. I know this will not be easy, but my best friend and I are strongly considering taking this journey together, and I have a wonderful husband supporting me. I want to be actively involved with my two young boys throughout their lives. So, I think I'm ready for this. I have a consult on 3/9, and hopefully I'll be scheduling soon after.

Best wishes to you, Mamadot and good luck as you begin your journey! It's great that you have a friend who is also considering a gastric band. It's very helpful to have someone by your side who is going through the same thing. It's wonderful that your husband is supportive too. Mine is as well, and I can't say enough, how much that has helped me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
