I am a self pay too, same story ins sucks. I havent been banded yet but there is a food section here you can take a look at for ideas on liquid diet phase. I will also be going back to work very soon after the band. I will have my band on a Wed then going back on Monday, unfortunalty i have used all of my vacation time. I have a desk job so hopefully i will be ok.

good luck!

I took off 2 weeks but could have gone back earlier. So I think you will be ok with the 7 days. You may feel a little tired the first couple of days so I hope your boss is understanding.

Your liquid diet will consist of any liquid that can go thru a straw. However, do NOT use a straw they cause air for lapbanders. You can have apple juice, cranberry juice, tea (non caffeinated), Protein shakes, lots of Water, carnation Breakfast milk. I even pureed up some of the cream of kind Soups and mixed them with the milk to thin them out. You can have sugar free popsicles. Depending on how long your dr. puts you on liquids after that you will move to the mushy stage. It gets a little better. Me and scrambled eggs with no sugar applesauce were really good friends. Also, egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad with lots of mayo. Mashed potatoes with spinach in them and a sprinkle of cheese were good to. Good luck.

I did the Optifast Pre-surgery diet. A registered dietician set me up with it pre my surgeon's request. It consisted of 8oz Protein Shakes, Protein Bars and Protein enhanced chicken broth. I could also have Water, s/f koolaid, s/f pop, any low or no calorie drinks. I took a total of 10 days off for work and I am glad I did. I guess it just depends on what you do at work, my job is similiar to a nurse aide, not a desk job. I just returned to work this Monday. I was still tender, but okay, I did sit down more than I usually do and am still on weight restriction. Best of luck to you!

Hi Ramona -

I just had the surgery August 3. I ate sugar-free pudding and Jello, chicken broth, and yogurt, mostly, and drank coffee, tea, and Water. Around day 3, I got really bad heartburn and gas problems that kept me from eating or drinking much of anything from day 4 through 7. Today, though, is day 8, and I'm feeling back to normal (thank goodness.) My energy is almost back, I have no more heartburn at all, and I'm able to eat solid foods again. And, by the way, I've lost 11 pounds already, so I guess that's the best news of all. Good luck to you!

I was banded on 7/20 and felt good enough to go back to work after about 4 days. I didn't have to, but I could have. I was a self-pay, too.

I have had several other laproscopic surgeries and this was by far the easiest. I was really anxious since I'm older (52) and I'm a big baby, but I was amazed at how quickly I bounced back.

By now, you've had your surgery and I hope you are doing well. I have had zero problems and am losing weight (knock on wood!). Since the surgery I have lost 20 lbs without too much trouble and have seldom felt deprived.

My only regret is that I did not do it sooner, but finances did not allow it until now.

I hope that you and all the others who have taken this new direction are successful and happy with their decision.

Keep in touch!

Colleen

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
