Anti-Weight loss surgery video on youtube

Recommended Posts

I know there are a lot of them out there in the world but this one bothered me because the start of the series was questioning why there was a divide between the WLS youtubers and the non-WLS youtubers who are trying to lose weight.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOEaGv3TTdk]This is the video[/ame] I am discussing.

Without ranting I wanted to start a list of things that are "unnatural" but super awesome.

1. Weight loss surgery

2. Antibiotics

3. Basically every medical innovation since people figured out diseases aren't caused by small demons.

4. Air conditioning

5. The internet

6. Microwaves

7. The automobile

8. Movies (I love movies!)

9. Plastic (it really makes life easier)

10. Roller coasters

I could go on, but it would get silly. Lots of things that don't occur in nature are fantastic and the idea that surgery is unnatural and so we shouldn't do it is willfully ignorant.

Surgery is unnatural? Well I guess I should have died giving birth to my first kid instead of having that c-section.

Sorry granddad.....I realize you need that Coronary Artery Bypass Graft, but the family feels that surgery is unnatural

I'm pretty sure that the copius amounts of make-up that chick is wearing is unnatural.

Didn't she say "if only", "if only" , "if only" enough times. I say if only she knew what it was like to be fat.

Jack I'm curious in light of another discussion going on elsewhere. You've had the band for a long time. Have you experienced any complications? Are you "one" with your band and completely happy with it?

I never got to the meat of the video because she was so annoying just setting up her discussion topic. Moron.

Why oh why would you want to make a complete fool of yourself like that?

What a dickhead. Not becuase of what she thinks but because she thinks anybody gives a rats.

There is a good chance that one of these days she will be obese. She then will go through the experiences that we have had. Then she can take all of her natural words and EAT them. My cousin used to make fun of me as kids. She is now just about if not heavier than I am. All I am saying is be careful of what you say. :) (Kinda like be careful of what you wish for) It could come back and bite her in the rump and thighs and legs....10_8_11.gif

Ha! ha! This reminds me of "the little piggy" story that goes around in my family as a moral lesson to the kids. When my sister, their Aunt, was younger, she was a toothpick. She once gave my sisterinlaw, who was heavy, a glass pig for her birthday. With a verbal message...."Oink,Oink, a pig, get it?" She was not only insensitive, but very rude. Now however, as an adult, she is fatter than her and everyone else in the family! Moral lesson...You reap what you sow.

Jack I was speaking to serious complications - not minor inconveniences.

It was said (elsewhere) that most people eventually have complications with their bands and I was just trying to do a little research on my own.

Thanks, your input is very helpful.

I find it really irritating when young people who are not particularly well-educated figure that they are experts and can shoot their mouths off on any old issue. Grrrr.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
