I'm DYING over here!

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

Today was my first official fill after over 4 years with no adjustments or check ups on my band. I was walking around with 5cc's thinking that my band had nothing in it at all. During this time, i'd been pregnant, given birth and nursed my son for over a year. So, today the doctor gives me a fill of 7cc's and it was too much--I threw up the barium. So, he removes 1cc (yes I had to pay $375 for 1cc, sucks for me right?) and leaves me with 6cc. But, I have not been able to drink anything, i'm even throwing up my own saliva! How can 1cc make this much of a difference? At 5cc I was able to nourish a baby for 9 months and nurse him? At 6cc I cant keep down Water? WTF?

So my question is...do I go back and get this 1cc removed or give it a day or two and see if it adjusts itself. Would I be dehydrated by then? Or...do i go back and ask for a .5cc out?

Let me add--when i was pregnant--I had 5cc's in my band and gained only 12 pounds the entire pregnancy. My starting weight was 265 and the lowest Ive weighed is 210. Right now i'm at a hefty 233, the exact weight I was upon giving birth.

Banded in August 2002 in Mexico with Dr. Sanchez. I have an 11cm bioenterics (sp?) lapband.

Thanks people!

I appreciate the advice...

Your post is a little confusing, did your doctor give you a fill today of 7cc and then removed 1cc or did you have 5cc in your band and your doctor gave you 1cc?

If your doctor filled you today with 7cc, I would say that is a very aggressive fill and should not occur. I am not a doctor, but a 7cc fill at one time is just inappropriate.

If you had 5cc in your band and your doctor gave you 1cc today and you are unable to keep Water down, you really need to go back and get a slight unfill. I know that is a real bummer and might perhaps cost you extra money, but your health is really important. You don't want to become dehydrated.

Good luck!

I had 5cc and he added 2cc and then took out 1cc, leaving me with 6cc. Basically, I wondered if I should give it another day or definitely go back and get a bit more taken out?

If you can't keep down ANYTHING, I would def go back asap. But sometimes mine does loosen a little after 24-48hrs. Just don't go too long. My aunt did that, she thought it would loosen and waited like 5 days, she got severely dehydrated and very sick. Finally she went for an unfill. Even half a cc can make a big difference.

Does your doctor always take out all your fill first before doing another fill just to check on how much is in there? Is that how you found out you had 5cc's when you thought you had nothing? If he didn't do this, he should have. If he did and thought 1cc more was okay - well, it obviously isn't and you need some taken out. Maybe just .5cc. But not being able to keep your saliva down is not normal or healthy. Go see him and see if you can have him do it without billing your insurance since you were throwing up and you shouldn't have left the office without being able to drink.

Again, if you cannot keep fluids down, then you need to have a slight unfill. I would not let this go past tomorrow if it were me.

You will get severely dehydrated in 1 day if you can't even swallow your spit. Try drinking something hot and see if it helps. Go back

I just cant understand why your FIRST priority after your OB woudl be to see your band doctor once you knew you were pregnant! The band needs good aftercare to work well, it is not a good plan to not have checkups and touch base with your doctor at least once a year.

You're really lucky you had no complications, but i agree, you definitely need an unfill now.

Also when you throw up it causes your stomach to swell so you can get even more restricted. Go back asap.

I would go back right away . . . when you can't get liquids in, it only seems to get worse, never better. If you wait another day or two, you will most likely be extra sick and miserable and your band could slip.

I am not surprised that 1 cc can make that much of a difference regardless of cost. When you are close to your sweet spot, .10 of a cc can make a big difference in how things flow through your pouch.

With pregnancy aftercare . . . my band doctor said that if I felt fine at my current level, was getting adequate nutrition, then staying status quo is no big harm.

However, I have been to the fill doctor 4 times since I conceived and will stay unfilled until after the baby is born due to tightness issues. If I had never gotten sporadically tight causing the need for bigger unfills, they would have been fine with leaving me as is.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
