I am 2 and 1/2 weeks post, does anyone eat Snacks? If so, what do you eat. I eat the amount that I am suppose to eat at meals but really feel like I need a snack about 2 hours after my meals. Should I be toughing it out or is an occasional snack ok?

I bought boxes of those mixed popsicles. (popsicles, fudgesicles and creamsicles). I especially like the creamsicles.

Nuts, have a few nuts in between meals. Probably not great as I eat too many.

I have a package of lean ham and cheese and I usually eat some of the ham, but sometimes the cheese.< /p>

I snack, couldnt deal with doing without totally, just cut way back.

I think it might also depend on what your dr wants you to do. For instance, my dr doesn't want me eating any Snacks in between meals. If I get hungry I'm suppose to drink more liquids. I can have like a sugar free popsicle or something but that's just frozen liquid. Find out what your dr wants you to do. I still have snacks once in a while though. Sshh, don't tell.

At 2.5 weeks post op, I was just starting the mushie stage of my post op diet, so snacking was not happening for me. I was eating very soft foods and trying to get my Protein and fluids in.

How is your Protein intake? Try and keep your protein intake up because it does help keep you full for longer periods of time, which might help you syop snacking.

Some doctors say Snacks are ok and some doctors say NO SNACKS. My doctor is one who says 3 meals a day and no snacks in between. I must admit, I do have a sugar free popsicle between meals every now and then.... ok.... every day. Good luck!! Becky

I agree with those who say check with your doctor. I am allowed Snacks, and during the mushy stage I could have SF puddings, SF popsicles, SF Jello, etc.

Once you are on solid foods again try string cheese, LF turkey or chicken, a boiled egg, or LF cottage cheese. These are pretty good Protein choices that will keep you full longer. They will be your friend until you have enough fills to reach restriction.

I am tight in the mornings so I have a Protein shake for Breakfast at 7am. Then at 9 I'll have (Breakstone's) lowfat cottage cheese. It is 90 calories and 11 or 12gms Protein. I stay full until lunch with this plan.

Good luck to you.

At 2 1/2 weeks post-op I was on mushies but I did eat healthy Snacks like applesauce or SF popsicles.

In general I follow the rules and eat three meals a day and no snacking in between. I watch my processed and starchy carbs so I don't crave Snacks very often but I am human and want a goodie every once in a while. Snacks for me are sugar free popsicles or fudgesicles, South Beach Protein bars, sugar free oatmeal Cookies, trail mix with dried fruit and nuts.

I watch my serving sizes and generally do not even need a full serving to satisfy me-1/2 Protein Bar or two small Cookies or a tiny handful of trail mix usually does the trick for me.

I had Snacks on my diet plan at 2 1/2 weeks out because I was just hungry. It was always low calorie, low sugar items allowed on the post-op diet. Once I hit restriction I cut out the snacking except for the rare string cheese or beef Jerky if I am really hungry or can't get a break to eat.

You just want to be careful that you don't get into snacking too much. If you are getting a snack every 2 hours after eating . . . it becomes grazing behavior and can cause a lack of weight loss. Another thing to keep in mind is that you have a calorie "budget" during the day. If you spend it wisely, you can incorporate healthy Snacks in a way that helps your diet along.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
