Pachelton: Who makes fat free croutons? I have tried to find them and couldn't. I love salads and would hate to give them up.

You could make them yourself.... Cube up some plain bread and sprinkle with dry spices like garlic, onion powder, oregano. Put on a baking sheet and toast in the oven around 300 degrees till light brown and crunchy. When I do them I check them and toss them around every 10 minutes to toast on all sides. No added fat. Cool and store them in a zip lock baggie at room temperature.

I too craved salad! It was the absolute LAST thing I thought I would miss. I've had salad a couple times since being banded 1/19 with absolutely no problem. I found the "crispier" pieces (near bottom of head) and romaine the easiest to eat.

As far as fat free croutons, nearly all of them are low/no fat. If you check the nutrition information you will find that a few croutons, fat free or not, are really not very high in fat or calories.

I eat at least one salad a day, sometimes two. I can eat lettuce, cucumber, chopped carrots, raw brocolli, zuchinni, avocados with no problem. I heard to stay away from raw tomatoes and onions.

I eat salad all the time and love it. With tuna or shrimp or salmon has to be my favorites. I chop raw cauliflower in itty bitty bites for extra crunch, cucumbers without skin aren't a problem if they are itty bitty. I find anything itty bitty are easy to chew! I use creamy salad dressings still just low fat/fat free. Everything in moderation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
