Stomach Virus and the Band

Recommended Posts

We have had the stomach virus going around alot and I have been around several people that have come down sick with it. What are the guidelines for feeling sick to your stomach and trying to protect your band?

I was banded in November 08 and my Dr told me that if I get the flu now it will be okay as I have healed. He did say if it got severe to call and get anti nausia medicine. Good luck.

I was also told not to worry if I had a 24 hr virus. If after a day I was still vomiting, to call the office, and they would call in a prescription for anti-nausea meds. I could also come in for an unfill.

There's a very nasty stomach bug going around, so I'm being even extra vigilant about hand washing. I definitely don't want to test my band.

Just a personal opinion, and I'm not a health professional, but I don't believe in any 24 hour stomach virus. If it only lasts 24 hours, I believe it is almost always bad food.

I also think all lapbanders especially should be getting the flu shot to try and avoid the nastiest stuff.

I have a prescription for anti-nausea medicine, just in case I ever need it quickly.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
