Good shampoo and conditioner for curly hair

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a good Shampoo and conditioner for long naturally curly hair? I have been using the Signature Collection from Bath and Body Works, but they discontinued it a while back. I have been able to order it online, but it is too expensive and takes forever to get here. And it is getting harder and harder to find. I am really bummed that they stopped selling it in the stores because it is the only thing that I have found that makes my hair behave. I want to find something that is sold at Walmart so there will be less of a chance of it getting discontinued. I used to use Pantene, but it started making my hair fall out. Any suggestions would be great!

Redken All Soft is divine. I dont have a lot of curl, but a lot of fuzz, and it is super duper moisturising but doesnt weigh the hair down, it makes my hair behave. If you have a more wiry drier curl, it would be good for that.

I've never heard of pantene causing hair to fall out. Was it related to dietary defiencies? I once was told that pantene conditioner was terrible for your hair, "the same as using dishsoap on your hair." But it is what I have had the most success in controlling frizz and helping my daughter's hair look beautiful.

I have naturally curly hair and my daughter got a double dose from both her father and I.

Do not wash it every day. This is not good for curly hair. With my daughter's hair, we may only Shampoo it once a week, but we condition it at least every other day (we use the pantene in the brown bottle, suppossedly for "women of color"). I don't worry about shampoo. I feel shampoo is shampoo. Why spend a lot on it. I do like to splurge once in a while and get products from the salon, but I don't notice a difference in my hair.

After squeezing most of the Water out of our hair, I take a dab of conditioner and scrunch the hair with that, especially the ends. Like I said, I personally prefer pantene. I think you could get 100 suggestions, they could all be different, but basically it's going to be your decision.

On the radio, Bob & Sheri show, Sheri raves about a specific brand, suppossedly made for curly hair. I purchased some of that. omg, it made my hair feel like horse hair, not soft, could not run my fingers through it-it was awful, a complete waste of money.

Good luck finding a product you like.

carrie, I have really thick coarse natural curls. My favorite is Matrix Biolage Hydratherapie. The shampoo makes my hair super soft and the conditioner is a thick balm and smoothes it out great. You can find it in your Salon or Salon type store.

Matrix - Hair Products - Biolage - hydrathérapie

One thing I do recommend is that every so often you change up your shampoo and conditioner too. Your hair almost builds up an immunity to it and over time it wont work as well as before. Then once you go back it works great again.

It may be at Wal-Mart, I'm not really sure. They do sell some salon quality S&C's so you might find it there. I DO NOT recommend Pantene. It's junk for people with hair like ours. Anyway, I doubt they will stop selling Biolage Hydrotherapie, it has been around for a very long time.

I do agree too that we should not wash our hair everyday. I never do that. I usually wash no more than every other day, preferably every third day.

Side note: If you like to style your hair straight from time to time, I recommend the InStyler rotating hair curler. It's expensive and you can't find it in stores but it is WELL worth the price. Something that used to take me 2 hours to do now only takes me 20 minutes, no joke!

instyler rotating hot Iron - Google Search

Best wishes!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I do have to wash my hair everyday because I use hairspray. It is the only thing that will control the frizz. I have tried everything for curly hair to keep it from frizzing, but everything actually makes it worse, except Rave hairspray!

I signed up over there, its a really great place I've found. They have so many different suggestions on hair products, I'm even a bit overwhelmed.

I'm making my list however as we speak... :crying:

I have long, curly, course, thick hair and I am literally an EXPERT at taking care of it. I teach clinics about how to take care of curly hair. I'm actually thinking of writing a book! So needless to say, I could go on forever here...

But to sum it up, I would say the #1 most important factor in keeping curly hair healthy is DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENTS. These are conditioners that are meant to be used on the hair once a week or so. You put them in and put a plastic shower cap on your head. You now have two options: sit under a dryer on high heat for 15-25 min and get your hair as hot as poddiable (this gets the best results). If you dont have a way to heat your hair, you can sleep with the treatment in your hair and shower it out in the morning (then Shampoo and condition as usual).

You can find single-use packets of deep conditioners at Sally's. Some brands I like are Aphogee, Henna & Placenta, Dr. Miracle, Beyond the Zone, Silk Elements... the list goes on forever.

IF YOU HAVE CURLY HAIR AND NEED HeLP CARING FOR IT PLEASE PM ME! I would love to help!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
