banded,5 weeks pregnant and spotting :(

Recommended Posts

I am about 5 weeks pregnant and started spotting this weekend. Went and had a HCG level drawn today and the doctor called and said to call the office in the morning that my level seemed a bit low.. I am so worried and dont want to lose this baby even though it was a surprise..has anyone else had these problems??

No.. but if you read the pregnancy books (or infinite literature on the net) spotting is not a sign of bad things. HcG levels, I'm not personally familiar with what low levels mean (I mean I do, but I don't know if that's a bad sign or just a not-typical sign).

Many women spot however..

Time to call the doc? It's morning!

Thanks fairie.. I did call the doctor on Sunday and they sent me for bloodwork. My levels are low and I just started progesterone supplement last night (which by the way makes u dizzy as all get out) and have to go today around noon for another test to see if my levels are rising. Hoping for the best. This will be baby number 3 for me ( my other 2 are 20 and 14) and was a complete surprise. Never had these problems with my other 2. Keeping my fingers crossed:thumbup:

My fingers are crossed as well. Hopefully the progesterone will help stabilize things so that your HCG's will rise steadily.

Wow, 20 & 14 and now number 3, you sound kind of like me with a 17 year difference between #1 and #2. :0)

Just an update on this post....I miscarried the baby at 7 weeks on 2/27/09. Worst thing I have ever experienced in my life. Hoping it had nothing to do with the band that I lost the baby. The doctor said it was just not meant to be.

So very sorry! I know there's very little that can be said or done to comfort you, but try to take relief in the fact that the band had nothing to do with it. There has never been a link between miscarriage and lap band. I don't want you to feel in any way responsible for this.

I am so sorry again!

Sorry for your loss Thunderstorm :) i will be thinking of you.

From what I have been told about the band is that it makes pregnancy safer and there is no link between banding and miscarriage, so don't blame yourself. I hope you are doing ok, you will be in my thoughts.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
